It’s Official Jet2.com is the Best European Short Haul Airline
Travel Awards 2006 recognises airline’s outstanding service and great value…
Jet2.com, the low cost airline based in Yorkshire continued its meteoric rise today with the announcement that it has been voted the ‘Best European Short-Haul Airline’, in the Travel Awards 2006 held in South Africa.
The airline was praised for its exemplary service and low cost fares by its passengers; two characteristics often attributed to northern businesses, proving that frugality does not mean skimping on quality.
The awards, sponsored by the Guardian and Observer newspapers, and now celebrating 20 years of identifying the cream of the travel industry, singled out Jet2.com as the pick of the bunch following extensive research into customer satisfaction.
Jet2.com headed off fierce competition from European national carriers like BA, Lufthansa and Air France/KLM and other low cost airlines.
The airline, which now flies to 38 destinations across Europe from six established bases, scooped the prestigious award at a luxurious gala ceremony in the South African city of Cape Town.
Philip Meeson, boss of Jet2.com, speaking from the airline’s Leeds Bradford Airport HQ said: “We are absolutely elated to win this award and the confirmation it gives that we have a winning combination of second-to-none service and low cost fares.”
“I would like to underline our heartfelt thanks, firstly to all our passengers who spoke so highly of us in the research and secondly, to all our staff especially our cabin crew and customer service agents, whose unstinting commitment to providing friendly and attentive service has won us this prestigious award.”
“I am also thrilled to say that in winning, we have fought off every European flag carrier and so called ‘low cost’ airline across the continent – an accolade indeed and confirmation Jet2.com can deliver the lowest fares and highest level of service.”

BA are definitely a rip-off for a national carrier. What do they do outside London? They do not offer one international route from GLA, a shocking fact for our so called national airline.

I’m not sure how anybody can justify British Airways as being a “rip-off” flag carrier. I think domestic and European flights are very competitively priced and worth every last penny.
And say what you like, “Jet2 is better than BA” or whatever, but do remember which airline was recently voted the best in the world by SkyTrax. I think they should re-introduce their “World’s Favourite Airline” slogan.
Jet2 and BA cannot be compared.. one is a full-fares carrier, the other is (supposedly) low cost, one is based at Heathrow, the other is based at Leeds. And these airlines operate very few flights on the same routes. How can comparisons be made between the two?

Fair enough mate, In contrast to Thomas Cook, Thomsonfly and the likes (the airlines who also operate TFS-NCL) the fares are alot higher.
I agree that they probably are a lot of the time when inspected. You and me would scout about for the best deals, but for joe public, the brash, bold, red advertising etc probably does the trick to put you one step ahead of your other mentioned operators.

NCL-TFS fares on their new 757 services are ridiculous!
On the other hand, flights to ORK, AMS and even KRK now seem very reasonable.
I look forward to trying the airline out next year.
Well done Jet2
Differant markets prevail here.
TFS routeas are filled with holiday makers, second home owners, expats etc who look for release dates to secure the cheapest fares. High yields from high loads – looms like they could be onto a winner if that iks the case!
AMS and ORK are as much Buisness orientated as Leisure, hence tend to fill up later as meetings are planned etc – especially during the midweek period. KRK as one of the newer markets will probably see average price increases as the winter season moves into the summer and word of mouth spreads on the local circuit.
Another way of looking at it: –
£20 e/w + Tax for a 45 min sector to AMS – or…
£100 e/w + Tax for a 4hr+ sector – which one looks better value for mopney in terms of operational costs?

Dont forget thats how charters work! They have a load factor that needs filing to make a profit and if this load factor is not full they will reduce the price because something is better than nothing!

£40 return i paid for a return flight to Reus from Manchester last summer on a 767-300 3 days prior to departure.
By: LBARULES - 10th October 2006 at 22:26
How do you work that one out? Not saying it isn’t true, but wondered how you came to that conclusion…
By: tommyinyork - 10th October 2006 at 22:24
Best Value Airline is Thomsonfly by a long shot.
By: wawkrk - 10th October 2006 at 19:44
The point is for many, the lack of direct flights.
If you pay a lot on Jet2, then you probably book late, or its the school hols.
Its called supply and demand.
KLM are very very cheap, but the price is often killed by airport taxes if you have a few connections. My regular route to Krakow from Leeds. Usually about 90GBP to Warsaw then 40GBP with LOT return to Krakow, but, when you add 6 airport taxes which are more than the fare, you end up with 320GBP and a 12 hour journey.
As for the extras with BA,I can do without a 150GBP sandwich.
On Jet2, only 5€.
