The Argosy is being re-painted as well as having small on-going re-furbs done on various bits.
It is, as you will understand, a huge paint project which will pretty much take most of the summer – and even then only when weather permitting. The weather factor affects not only the application of the paint but, more importantly the safety of the blokes at height. For example, that tailplane is quite a height off the deck and the winds are quite strong around it. This applies to the booms and upper surfaces as well of course. All they have at MAM is a giraffe which needs dragging around by hand (usually), so all-in-all the team have a fair job on their hands.
If anybody knows a friendly builder or the like that can lend MAM a bunch of scafolding for a few months . . . . 😉
So far (yesterday) only the white areas are being done. All engines have been painted, underside of port wing, main u/carriages, front transport door and parts of the port boom/fin/tailplane assembly. Looks much more gooder. The red will follow when a suitable colour match is determined.
Good news is that after nearly 17 years, the rear transport door has been opened at last – needed a bit of hackling on the hydraulic system and door lock bolts. Pic shows a surprised Team A chappie (in the midst of painting summat as you can see  ).
If you fancy getting your hands dirty (or, all-white at least) why not cut along to MAM and offer to help this summer.

The look on that chaps face as the door opened up unbeknownst to him is hillarious. Imagine sitting in a cubbyhole nice and wamr working away and suddenly the end wall opens up and now your outside!
That “cubbyhole” if I remember correctly is where the Elsan toilet is situated 😀 😀 😀

The Argosy looks a whole lot better already with just a few bits painted. As mentioned above the MAM does a great job with most of the exhibits outside. There are some real tidy aircraft there that have been painted in recent years.
Well done to all involved. A great effort. Keep up the good work.

You guys are doing a fantastic job of repainting not only the argus, but all of the aircraft that are outside on display. Your groups eforts should be highly commended and I think MAM should be a model for all other museums that have outdoor aircraft to work from.
