It's the long awaited…Borneo trip report!

Well I’m finally back here at my pc, after spending 24 hours travelling wih virtually no sleep. As you can imagine, I’m completely knackered to please bare with me, this might take a while!

I think first there should be a bit of background, as many people don’t even know where Borneo is, let alone anything about it!

Borneo is the world’s third largest island, situated East of mainland Malaysia and North of Indonesia and is split into 4 parts. The 4 parts consist of:

Sabah-Where I stayed, on the Northern part of the island. Owned by Malysia, but was owned by the British until the mid-sixties.

Sarawak-Same as above, but is an area on the South Western end of the island.

Indonesia-The whole South part of the island is owned and run by Indonesia

Brueni-A state in it’s own right, owned by the Sultan of Brunei. On the Western coast of the island, a fairly small area of land only about 15 miles long.

Thanks a lot everyone! Makes it all a lot more worth it. You can now click on my jetphotos.net link in my signature to see some full size versions of the shots. I now have 70 accepted to jp, around 40 of them are from my latest trip. May also be some on there that I didn’t put up on here either.

Thanks a lot for all the kind comments! And thanks Britannia for rating it 🙂 NCLRULES,it’s funny you say that as my last EZY trip report was commented on by a couple of members as being one of the best of the year! 😀 Now I have a standard to keep up though, and it can be very time consuming!

I wasn’t even specifically searching for any of your flights, I was just browsing the ‘most popular of last 24-48 hours’ on airliners.net and came across it. Just came across this one too:

Although, I guess it was taken too early for you to be on it. 🙂

Just as I began to get excited, seeing as I flew on May 8th……I saw it was 2003! Ah well, still quite a coincidence! Same plane, same place, same date….just the wrong year 🙂

Remind me, what day did you leave KK? I can’t believe I just found a pic of some random guy taking a oicture of your aircraft while you were departing, and in such a remote place. Surely not!? 😉

Wow! It actually is. I departed KK on the 14th at around 16:30, finally arriving back at LHR on Saturday 15th morning. Yay, I was on that plane! I think the guy who took it is a Malaysia Airlines pilot, he seems to be at KK all the time, and gets a lot from the cockpit aswell. I’ve just been searching the aviation sites for any shots of the other aircraft I’d flown on, but didn’t think to check that flight when it was in such a remote location! 😀

Australian Airlines was set up by Qantas to offer low(er) cost flights. The inbound leg was operated by a QF aircraft, althought the crew, service and inflight shopping was all Australin Airlines. On my way out, I did fly in one of the ‘bright orange’ ones. I flew out on VH-OGI, one of the four that fly in the full Australin Airways colour scheme. Thanks for the comments!

Even more excellenet pics! Thanks for sharing all of them with us! 😀
Flying along with that other QF744 most have been great! Something I would like to experience one day.
Frankfurt looks like a cool airport, the odds are against me ever visiting though.
I notice that all your Australian flights were with Qantas aircraft, yet I’m sure I’ve seen pics of their own aircraft in a bright orange livery? What’s the connection between them and Qantas?
I now feel obliged to try and get some good photos from my flights when I visit BHX at the beginning of next month! 😀

Fantastic report and pictures Wannabe. I’m still jealous of you having been in FRA. I just love it there. Glad you had a good time. Borneo certainly looks very picturesque.

Does anyone know why the seats in the Fokker are ‘A’ and ‘C’ on the left, then ‘D’ and ‘F’? What happened to ‘B’ and ‘E’?

It’s just to make it easy. All narrowbodies have seats A and F as window seats, and C and D as aisle seats, with B and E being the middle seats, where applicable.

On the Swiss Saab and ERJ145 I was on last month, for example, the 1+2 config on both was A DF
