Itunes & The Ipod – Help!

Hi All,
The other day I was in the unfortunate position by where I lost all my music in Itunes.
My Ipod currently has all my music on there but is slowly running out of power. I heard a rumour that when I connect the two again that Itunes will wipe my Ipod (my itunes now has no music on it) clean.
Is there any way of getting around this problem, as I am sure it happens all the time.
This has happened recently to my partner too so any help would be greatly appreciated by the both of us.

Cheers,
Adam

Adam:
First thing to do is BEFORE connecting the ipod open up Itunes, click on “Edit” on the top, then click “preferences“, a new box opens up… the far right tab (should be) “syncing” open this tab up, and TICK the box that says “disable automatic syncing…..” now that will stop the ipod being wiped when you connect it.
Now you go to …: http://www.sturm.net.nz/website.php?Section=iPod+Programs&Page=SharePod and download Sharepod…follow the instructions on the page.(i think it is a free program), once you have installed it on your ipod, you can transfer anything from the ipod to your PC with ease. (you cannot run itunes the same time as sharepod, sharepod just won’t work) you’ll see your ipod as a new drive in “my computer” any time you connect it.
Don’t worry about the battery dying, the ipods contents will still be there.
Hope this helps.
P.S. if you are having some difficulties with sharepod opening in the form of it trying to load programs like a webcam program ?!? (for some reason it does this on mine…. no idea why) just cancel the other progs from starting… this glitch may just be some sort of conflict unique to my PC.. i really don’t know, but, i just cancel it (time after time!!!) and sharepod opens up.
BTW with sharepod you can plug your ipod into any PC and transfer files.

The Zune plays videos, pictures, podcasts, and has a built-in radio and wireless transmitter to send stuff to other people.

Zune also works well with the XBox 360, I don’t know if you can plug an iPod into it (I’ve never tried, it may very well work).

Between the wife’s iPods and my Zunes, I will say that the Zunes have better picture quality for videos. Plus, their control thing is nowhere near as problematic as that used by the iPod (the dial whatever). I’ve had to replace a few of her iPods because the control dial thing has failed.

What’s the difference between an iPod and a cheap MP3 player, besides a shedload of money. Also, can I play my regular MP3 on a iPod, or does it only play songs from iTunes?

Well nothing, but you pay for what you get as the old saying goes. I pods look great and they work great.

Pls if you get the MP4 ipod you can play muic videos, pics as well as music

Spalds and Emily… The iPod Disaster Twins!

There are programs that will allow you to copy music from your iPod back onto your computer. I’m not sure if this will be of any use but I found this on a quick search. It doesn’t really make much sense to me, but you’re smarter than me so you might be able to work it out. 😉

I’m sure you’ve already thought of this, but the files that have been deleted arn’t in your recycle bin are they?

Paul

Cheers mate, we shall both give it a go and hope for the best.
See you in Dublin soon mate 🙂

Well i cant help the first post but an ipod is a small computer that can fit into your pocket. It takes songs from cd’s or taken from the itunes store and it puts them into the ipod. You can have 1000’s of songs stored as it compresses the file size.

They are fantastic pieces of kit and i would recomend one

I had this happen with mine and the songs stayed on my i pod, have you lost your songs through deleting the folder or is it not looking in the right place for your music?

curlyboy

The Itunes folder is completely empty (it was my own fault)
I just wonder if there is some magical way of recovering the songs without Itunes deleting it!
I fear the worst……..

My wife has various iPods, I have two Microsoft Zunes. The Zune, while a larger unit (I’ve got the original one), does have a lot better software. You can tell the software specifically what to do with your music, so that you avoid these types of issues. I’ve had the Zune for a few eyars now, and I have no issues with it, so maybe you should consider a switch.
