I've bought a scanner – standby for dodgy 80's slides/prints

Some of you may remember kindly answering my enquiry about buying a scanner about a year ago. Subsequent events delayed the purchase me but I finally commited to buying one today.

I’ve gone for a Canon Canoscan 8000F flatbed which does slides and transparencies. it cost £135 from cameras2u.com (recommended in a reply). I would have bought from Pixmania but their small print made me a bit uneasy.

Yes, I know that you get what you pay for so I’m not expecting miracles. All I really want to do is have an easy to use converter of ‘stuff’ from old boxes into digital format – and the forum is by far the best way to show them to fellow enthusiasts. This Canon thingy seems to be a good compromise.

Thanks again to Damien, Snapper, Robbo and all the other respondants to my original thread (I know them in charge don’t like old threads popping up).

Regards,

I’ve got some slides of a full-scale replica Spit that I wouldn’t mind scanning in – any suggestions?

No problem. May take a week or so.

I always struggle to get good resolution. Here is an example of constellation, Britannia and a couple of DC 4’s taken at LHR in 1957.

Can anyone advise how to get a reasonable size and clarity from a slide.

Merlin 70, yes please! Would you be so kind as to put them on a new thread, as this one won’t do it justice.

Trumper, yes, I’m braced for the inevitable cursing at the computer.

Everyone, hang in there, work has me away from my own facilites but I will get going on this project early Sep.

My Father in Law did his National Service in Malta and Iraq. He has a few dozen slides of Furies and other types. If anyone is interested I will ask to copy them.

Ha ha Stringbag, I’ve got some RNHF slides from 1986, mainly of WG655 which I’ll make a priority
