Jag at Brunty

After talking to the people trying to do something with the jag at brunty (yes the green one) there is an intention to try and get it running, a long term project as she is heavily stripped and with no engines, however as they said they weren’t particularily internet active i thought i’d highlight it for them

I beleive as it stands they are trying to attach the wing properly for the first time since it arrived

and then they are after rebuilding the cockpit, it’s essentially a GR1 and was never updated being a BDRT airframe, however one of the buccs at brunty arrived that way and is progressing so nothing is insurmountable

any offers of help or spares greatfully recieved as it’ll be the only running jag if they sort it in the UK. let us know and i’ll pass on any info

they are currently working without any Air Publications !!!! just small snippets and photo’s

I believe there was mention of a bunch of 6sqn lads clubbing together and buying a retired airframe for use at brunty but it came to nothing

Cheers

Just an idea but what about filling her wing tanks with water or something?

unfortunately the guppy has swung through 90 degrees in the wind and broke away from the large tug, in the ensuing swing it hit the green godess fireengine parked next to it and the fuselage is badly punctured. The port mainwheel and nose wheel are now off the concrete and sinking in mud !!!

If i knew how to upload photo’s i’d send you the ones from today

Wouldnt it be a beter chance of getting one of the surplus airframes? Not knocking the Brunty jag but he does sound rough?

RAF Cranwell still have a hand full of very active Jags .
can be seen taxing around the runways some days.
Nice wrap around camo paint jobs still,
plus a few new paint jobs also.

Talking of the Cranwell Jag’s If you look at this link.below
you will see that there Jags are still in use in some form . the pictures where taken yesterday

they also need to get the tailerons re-attached but have neither the manuals of the attaching bolts, not even sure they have a taileron PFCU in it to attach to if i remember they are in the upper fuselage just fwd of the fin leading edge

Tailplane PFCUs are attached at the lower position by a bolt in the bottom of the fuselage which can be a pig, If the C levers aren’t fitted to the tailplane spigot for the upper PFCU attachment then these require a gert big bolt which is a tight interference fit and can also be a pig.

I’m not sure about the wing i think they’re jigging it around, by trestling the wing to align the rear “dog” bone type links, i couldn’t help them on that front as i’ve only taken a wing pfcu and the wheels and brakes off during training at cosford, i’m obviously maxed out with the sea vixen at the mo so only pop over occasionally to see what’s going on, i’ve already told them i can overhaul their wheels, but they’ll need some new covers. The nose leg shock needs sorting as it’s dragging a bit

they also need to get the tailerons re-attached but have neither the manuals of the attaching bolts, not even sure they have a taileron PFCU in it to attach to if i remember they are in the upper fuselage just fwd of the fin leading edge

Having looked at some of the posts on this thread, I would have to say IMHO that XZ382 is not the best candidate to have as a runner unfortunately. Spares would seem to be an issue and as an ex BDR airframe is probably fairly abused. That said, I wish you well and the APs are there for you to copy:)

I thought we had put the wing on ‘properly’ ( albeit not locked ) – I know the spine and panels were a bodge, but as said, it’s an ex-BDR mess.

the wing is only held on by 2 main pins ( with lock plates ) and a pair of links at each corner, each with a bolt to the fuselage, and another to the wing.

Mind you, if memory serves, I was down the back that day ( OK – I was snooping round the Vulcan really……)

flipflopman shhhh don’t mention the bungees we discussed yesterday

As i said the guys doing the job are not computer active, however on their behalf other than what i’ve already discussed i’ll try and get a wants list from them, i think they are after part sources other than everett that are “jag running” sympathetic, sorry obviously there are the DCA airframes at both cosford and cranwell, most CPL in the RAF will have towed some of the cosford examples (ex 6 sqn flyers) whilst on TMT training, i know i did the chf tech running that hanger is mr jaguar but can’t remember his name, i know he can be a bit sharp

I believe there is a Facebook group of ex Jag ground personnel – possibly from 41 or 6 Sqn. Could be worth getting in touch with them.

If I can make a small suggestion, could the group post on here themselves with a list of wants etc, I think they might be surprised as to how much expertise and parts are out there.:)

Wouldn’t it be easier and cheaper in the long run to wait for one of the complete RAF Jags to become available?
Now, I do realise it isn’t all about cost and an easy life…!

As I’ve mentioned to Matt, I still have all of my Jag Propulsion ‘Q’ course notes, and the 104 – 106 engine upgrade notes which the lads can happily copy, plus I’m not all that averse to spending the odd day at Brunty rebuilding an old aircraft!!! 😀

There is at least one ground running Jag still at Cosford. Most of the others are live and ‘could’ fly again in theory. Worry not!… well, not YET.
