What is Bond carrying these days? Is he still with the PPK?? In Tomorrow Never Dies… he said he asked Q to get him a new Walther… is he carrying that now??

RE: James Bond’s Gun
Ink,
I think in “Dr No” they just goofed in continuity!
Tomel,
What is the standard issue for handguns in Malaysia’s security services? I know they bought a whole crop of PPKs for CHOGM years ago. I have seen Glocks, do I see SIG-Sauers?

RE: James Bond’s Gun
I’ve never enjoyed the (questionable) pleasures of shooting a PPK but an Aussie friend of mine informs me that it cannot be fitted with a silencer (like in Dr. No), is that why they went with the PP throughout the film?

RE: James Bond’s Gun
Saadullah Johan,
P99 were the first of them all to introduced the changeable pistol grip concept which permit the gun to be customised according to the shooter hand size.Eg-the P226 is a very good gun-but for a female or a small frame asian -the grip just too big -so not very practical for serious rapid fire shooting.
Accuracy is very good -and since the weapons is a medium frame pistol -it is very popular among the close protection comunity.Chambered for 9mm,.40 calb and .22 -the pistol do have their own followers.I ‘ve never fired the P99 before -but according to those who used it -it’s like a dream-no wonder 007 opted to carry it.

RE: James Bond’s Gun
Thanks Tomel. P99 it is.
The PPK is not an easy pistol to shoot. The short barrel makes it rather lively in your hands. The PP with its longer barrel is slightly less lively. This is despite their .32inch or 7.65mm calibres. (Bond carries the 32.)
The P5 is a different story. It is easier to shoot accurately despite the 9mm loads…
Until I come across the CZ75! Even the Compact model is a dream to shoot. Very controllable, very accurate. These Czech pistols are classics and set the standards in sidearm design and manufacture.
I don’t know about the P99. It is not all-metal. Perhaps you pay a price for the lower weight in balance and accuracy.

RE: James Bond’s Gun
[updated:LAST EDITED ON 31-08-02 AT 03:33Â AM (GMT)]In the later Brosnan episodes he has been carrying an updated Walther. In 9mm versus the .32inch of the PPK. The exact designation escapes me just now.
Bond has been seen to carry a couple of variations of the Walther:
Dr. No – PPK (actually it turned out to be a PP after the scene in which Q issued the PPK, and stayed a PP thereafter in the film). “From Russia With Love” showed Bond with a PPK throughout as Ian Fleming meant him to do! I love the girl-fight sequence which ended in a gunfight showing Bond using the PPK to good effect.
Octopussy (can never get over that title!) – Walther P5 (9mm)
Living Daylights – a Walther sniper rifle.
