jan 19 1991 F-15 vs Mig-25 battle

I have a question regarding the Jan 19 famous engagement

Were the Mig-25 able to shoot any R-40 at the F-15s at all ? were they even carrying the R-40 missile ?
As I have read this was a trap to lure the F-15s into SAM sites with foxbats as bait
