Hi all
Could anyone please tell me which squadrons used the Javelin FAW9R’s (FAW9 with refuelling probe) and did they have a fleet of all 9R’s or would it have been mixed ie some FAW9’s and some FAW9Rs.
Thanks for any help

Who can tell me how many internal fuel that Javelin carry at most? Who can show me that a Javelin carry four 1046 liter external fule tanks under wing? I only saw a Javelin carry 454liter external fuel tank.

Some Javelin F(aw) Mk 7 were modified to near Mk 8 standard becoming the Mk 9. Some had flight refueling facilities plumbed in becoming Mk 9(F/R) -four aircraft. A further mod. which included fitting the flight refueling probe and upto four auxiliary underwing tanks introduced into service the Mk 9R the ‘R’ standing for range. Total of Mk 9R’s was sixty nine. Sixty Squadron had twenty two Mk 9R’s which meant they were the main user.

No’s 23, 29 and 64 Sqns certainly operated Javelin 9Rs. I believe, although I am not 100% sure, that 9Rs made up the entire squadron strength.
When 64 Sqn disbanded at Tengah in mid-67, they handed their aircraft over to 60 Sqn who, I think, flew a mixture of 9/9Rs until they disbanded at the end of April 68.
I am not sure if other squadrons also flew the 9R.
