Javelins with 60 and 64 Squadron in the Far East

For my current writing project I am trying to locate and correspond with people involved with both the above squadrons in the Far East when they flew Javelins.
The history of the Javelin is not covered very well and I plan to write an article about the aircraft’s time in the Far East. I would like some personal input.
Please reply here or send a pm if you think you can help.

Lindoug,
I was a navigator on 60Sqdn from Jan64 to end of Confrontation. If I can help at all, you can mail me.
I did some flying with SteveW62’s dad.

Javelin article.

I noticed you were asking about first hand info on people who were involved in operating the aircraft. In a past copy of Eco Echo a magazine dedicated to deaf people and published in Norfolk I read about a pilot who suffered hearing problems after flying jets for a few years and he talked about the Javelin causing him the most trouble.
I tried in vain to locate the copy but it must have gone for the recycle bin, anyway I can supply a contact phone number and an e mail address if its any help and they might be able to put you in touch with the chap who wrote the story for them.01362 687617 or e mail….eco.echo@virgin.net

It could be worth a try and I,m sure the magazine was relavent for this year, good luck.cheers.:)

I intend to write an article for submission to one of the UK aviation magazines for publication. This article will be an account of 60 and 64 Squadron Javelin operations in the Far East. In my articles I prefer to include information from first hand sources ie people who were involved. Some of you may be familiar with my articles previously published in Flypast, Air Enthusiast and Aeroplane; the most recent of these being in December’s Flypast on the clandestine overflights in the mid 1950s by RF-100s under Project [I]Slick Chick[/

Go for it Doug. I enjoyed the article on the F-100 covert ops so if your Javelin project is as good it will be worth reading. First hand accounts are always best for an “in service” perspective of the machines, whether it is from the ground crew or air crew side..

A couple of HAA members, most notably Peter Thorn were flight commanders / instructors on Javelins. PM me if you want contact details.

My Dad flew with 60 Sqn from Butterworth.

I loaded a couple of small Cine films he was involved with into YouTube.

John Parson ( Navigator in 60 Sqn ) is still around, I can put you in touch with him.

Here’s one of John’s films featuring the Javelin

& finally through these films a couple of the Javelin guys from that period have contacted me. I’ll pass on their details.

Many moons ago there was a chap on the forum by the name of ‘keithmac’, ex-RAF groundcrew. Amongst his many postings were a couple to Javelin squadrons in different parts of the world. You could try a PM in case he still browses, or maybe someone here is still in touch with him?

I believe 64 sqdn had Javelins at Duxford from 1959 – 61… maybe worth contacting the IWM there.!
