After avion ancien’s mystery landscape photo quiz, here’s another.

What, where, when and why?
Clues – I’ve removed one roadsign and done one other thing, otherwise it’s as it was. There are three items visible relating to the location’s aviation history – which is unique.

You’ll have to get as mind numbingly obscure as me to make them run a little longer – or chose topics on which there are not so many experts on this forum!

Hallowed ground – RAF Tempsford.
Well that didn’t last long, either!
Well done. RAF Tempsford, base of 161 and 138 Special Duties Squadrons.

Nice flat ground and a low hill…could be the eastern half of the UK, maybe Bomber Command country, eg Yorkshire or Lincolnshire. Looks like a hangar in the distance centre left, plus possiblly some large low buildings in the distance at centre.
My first through was Boscombe Down to be honest, but on reflection I don’t think so.
There is a hangar. It’s not Boscombe Down, and it’s not an obvious county or role.
