Jersey Increase!!!

bmibaby have today been approved to operate daily services to Jersey from Cardiff and East Midlands. They are also increasing services from E ast Midlands to Salzburg and Toulouse. These new services will operate in the winter.
I bet Saab 2000 is happy about the Jersey approval!

RE: Jersey Increase!!!

Don’t get me wrong,I love the Trislander! Its a great little aircraft for short hops across the sea between GCI-JER etc. However, from my own personal experience a 45 journey across the channel is not that pleasent! The aircraft are cramped and rather tiny with 3 extremely noisy propellors, your ears are ringing once you have landed. There is no aisle so you feal rather claustrophobic.
I love the aircraft, its part of my islands identity, when you tell people about Aurigny, they say “Oh yes!The Joeys” The aircraft has been in service for over 30 years and yet still keeps on flying day after day, fantastic!I just think 50 minutes on the aircraft is pushing it a bit for the passenges.
I’m wondering if there will be refreshments given out before you board, seeing that Le Cocqs (The owners of the airline) have a supermarket in Alderney!!The whole purpose of AirX at first was to deliever food daily from Bournemouth to Alderney with an Islander, its now been extended to passenger services.
Alderney-Bournemouth
Alderney-Cherbourg
Alderney-Jersey (Starts October)
Jersey-Bournemouth (Starts October)

RE: Jersey Increase!!!

Thanks for that. The 737 is being operated on the Cardiff route which beats BA’s small Jetstream 41!

RE: Jersey Increase!!!

Origionally bmibaby operated 2 733s and a F100, due to other operational commitments with the main airline (i.e. the LBA-LHR flight is a 733). But these flights are been upgraded and replaced as from the winter timetable the LHR run is a A320 flight – so no points for guessing where the 733 is going!!! The F100 will prob then replace the F70 that is going to KLM Cityhopper in October!

RE: Jersey Increase!!!

Just looked at OAG to see the bmibaby flight schedules from EMA to JER.Looks like my info I was given was wrong because bmibaby will fly to JER daily, however,it says with a Fokker 100 with WW code, are bmibaby operating the 737 and Fokker 100?

RE: Jersey Increase!!!

[updated:LAST EDITED ON 16-09-02 AT 06:19 PM (GMT)]I heard this about three weeks ago,I was emailed two of the approved applications which appeared in the local newspaper over there.Bmi wanted lower slot prices,JTA said no but they were in further negotiations to lower prices through some new system.I think its funny that a low cost operator wants to fly the route without any strings attached.
The bmibaby flights from Cardiff to Jersey are only on a weekend though if popular could be upgraded. The East Midlands are a little strange,Bmi normally fly this route once daily with a Fokker 100, however,I think this is now only at the weekends as well (anyone confirm)The Jersey route i’ve heard is popular and has got good loads but it would seem,if what I heard was right, that the frequency was being dropped from daily to weekend?
Islandair could also be up in November,JER-STN 737-200 with prospect of new routes to Europe in summer. This is of course if the airline gets off the ground.Should find out soon…
