Just a quick question regarding Jet2, how many hours on average before an A/C is scrapped? I noticed a few of their 757’s have 65000+ hours already (dating from between 1987 and 1992) and they have only recently been aquired, seems a bit short sighted to me. Plus their 737’s date from 1986 – are their any plans to renew their fleet in the near future? They are a decent ailine i flew with them only a few weeks back, this is not intended to stir things up!!

Many years ago a certain charter airline (BY) did say in their inflight mags that aircraft got better with age. They had all 737 aircraft then.

Ryanair got where they are today by starting off with vinatge 737-200s and these were well over 20 years old when they retired them – and Ryanair were working these aircraft really hard. So Jet2 have a good few years life left in their 1986 – 1988 fleet especially as they are not working them that hard – even in the summer months.

In BFS this Summer jet2 have had a very high level of reliability with their aircraft when compared with other based airlines at BFS.
It also helps that they have their own team of engineers that meet all aircraft when they arrive, even on a 30 min turnaround.

Hours is one factor, but you should also consider cycles as well.

Yes age isnt a problem to a certain extent.
but As i once said to a passenger when questioning the age of the a/c ‘Madam you just have to look at the titanic, it was brand new and it still sunk’
We dont really have problems with the aircraft, the only one that sticks in my mind is LSAD, It had many tech probs when it first came online, and now again it has little teething problems but im aware people from work used to fly on it when it was G-OOOS at Air2bob and even then it had a reputation, maybe OneLeft could enlighten us from its day as G-BRJD at Air Europe?
The only other problems i have been aware of are minor tech problems which brand new aircraft can have.
Not to name names here but haveing flown and family flown with BmiBaby on a few occasions eachtime there has always been a problem regarding thier aircraft.
Living day in day out on Jet2 aircraft i can personaly only name 4 occasions in my year of flying at jet2 where the aircraft has gone tech, 2 of which where sorted an flew again. the other 2 where……….. LSAD.

Just because an aircraft is old dont mean it cant do a good job. Airliners now have a life time of some times 30 years plus. Jet2 are doing the best with what they can afford.

Yeah I thought that, haven’t some had a flew problems too?
I really want Bmi baby to get some new aircraft 🙂
