JET AIRWAYS ORDERS 10 EMBRAER 175, WITH OPTIONS FOR 10 ADDITIONAL AIRCRAFT

Embraer announced today the formal acceptance, by India’s Jet Airways, of a commercial proposal regarding 10 EMBRAER 175 aircraft, with options for 10 additional units. The order is valued at approximately US$ 260 million, and may reach US$ 520 million if the options are converted. Deliveries are expected to begin in the third quarter of 2004 and stretch throughout 2007.
Negotiations aiming at a formal contract shall take place in the coming weeks.

“To see Embraer’s entry in the important Asian market with an order of 10 of our new EMBRAER 175s, plus options for an additional 10 aircraft of this model by such a prestigious company as Jet Airways, constitutes a remarkable milestone that makes me and all Embraer employees very proud”, said Maurício Botelho, president and CEO of Embraer, who added: “This new order of the EMBRAER 175 is another indication that Embraer has chosen the right path in the design of the new EMBRAER 170/190 commercial jet family, being able to offer a combination of flexibility, comfort, performance and economics that cannot be matched by any of its existing competitors”.

Jet Airways has selected the GE powered standard model EMBRAER 175. Like the smaller 70-seat EMBRAER 170, the EMBRAER 175 has four main doors and no over-wing exits in order to offer airlines maximum cabin configuration flexibility for dual class, single class, or high-density seating arrangements. Both aircraft types share the same crew type rating.

Jet Airways is India’s largest private domestic airline, operating an average of 245 flights per day and connects 41 destinations within India. The average age of the fleet is 2.9 years making it the operator of the youngest aircraft fleet for the size and type of aircraft operated.

The airline within a short period of 9 years has achieved a market share of 46% of the Indian Domestic Market and since inception on 5th May 1993 has carried a total of 31.5 mill. passengers. Jet Airways has been recognized in the form of several national and international awards such as India’s best Domestic Airline and also the prestigious Market Development Award for 2000 from Air Transport World (ATW).

“The Indian domestic air market has a huge growth potential and we are optimistic about rapid growth of markets that require a 70-80 seater aircraft.” said Naresh Goyal, Chairman of Jet Airways. “For a long time, we have been very keen to induct the regional jet aircraft into our fleet and are pleased to have selected the Embraer 175. It meets our requirements both from a technical and economic perspective. We are confident that with the addition of Embraer 175 in our fleet, Jet Airways will further improve its product and thereby continue on its mission of offering the best travel experience to its valued passengers”

Six pre-production units of the EMBRAER 170, the first member of Embraer’s new commercial jet family, are participating in an aggressive development and certification schedule that saw the first aircraft take flight last February 19th, only 32 months after the official EMBRAER 170/190 program launch in June 1999, followed by the first flight of the second, third, fourth and fifth prototypes in less than 5 months.

Successful completion of the flight test program is expected to lead to the certification of the EMBRAER 170 in the first quarter of 2003, prior to delivery to launch customer SWISS of Switzerland.

Embraer anticipates that its new family of 70 to 108-seat EMBRAER 170/175/190/195 commercial jets will capture a share of the emerging 60 to 120-seat market by offering aircraft with superior passenger comfort and low operating costs.

To date, the EMBRAER 170/190 family has 112 firm orders and 202 options from SWISS, GECAS, Air Caraïbes. “
