24 May 2004
One of the biggest and most ingenious adverts for Yorkshire took to the skies today as the UK’s favourite low cost airline*, Jet2.com promotes the county across Europe through its newest aircraft which is branded ‘Jet2 Yorkshire’.
The introduction of the striking 148-seat Boeing 737-300 – which includes a white rose and 50-foot full-length ‘Yorkshire’ branding on each side – will boost the profile of the county across the continent, reflecting Jet2.com’s commitment to bring more business and leisure travellers into the region.
With it’s arrival at Leeds Bradford International Airport today, this unique aircraft is the eighth to join Jet2.com’s fleet – it will serve all of its European destinations.
People from the region will continue to enjoy affordable access to European hotspots, such as Amsterdam, Barcelona and Prague, while flying the flag for the UK’s biggest county.

“Jet2.com is really proud to be part of the region and passionate about promoting its many benefits abroad. Yorkshire is not only about the Dales and heritage sites – it also has vibrant cities and great attractions to visit, a fact we are keen put across to more European travellers.

The Yorkshire region has become a hugely popular destination in recent years offering a mixture of attractions for both business and leisure travellers.
Jet2.com is putting in a huge effort to actively promote the region overseas and hopes that in doing so it will increase tourist and business visitors and help boost the Yorkshire economy.
Leeds already has one of the fastest-growing economies in the UK and other major cities including Hull, Bradford and Sheffield are enjoying a renaissance – the airline hopes its contribution will add to the success story.
With Leeds’ diverse array of nightlife, fabulous shopping and key business centre; York’s historic attractions; Hull’s seafaring heritage; and the fantastic Dales countryside, Yorkshire makes the perfect leisure or business destination.
Terry Hodgkinson, Chairman of Yorkshire Forward, added:
“The region’s economy is booming and the area is one of the most successful at attracting businesses and visitors from around the globe. Promoting the region is crucial to our continued success and Jet2.com’s flying advert has certainly taken promotion of the region to new heights.”
David Andrews, Chief Executive of Yorkshire Tourist Board, went on to say:
‘It’s definitely the biggest advert for Yorkshire we have ever had! To see the message ‘Jet2 Yorkshire’ and the Yorkshire Rose emblazoned for all to see on runways around Europe is an amazingly powerful promotional tool. It is excellent that Jet2.com has such pride in its Yorkshire connections.’

Got to be honest, im not incredibly keen on the Yorkshire on the side.
Very surprised they havent announced any new routes with the delivery of this a/c, the present a/c arent fully utilised, so they must be new routes coming with a 7th a/c.
Go Jet2!

That will be the one. I just heard a brief account of what happened from my grandparents. Thanks for telling me what actually happened.

I do agree with the comment the scheme looks slightly cluttered, but in this case as a one-off I can accept it – especially with the othe aircraft in the fleet looking so classy!
Craigston Tom, welcome onboard. I presume you are referring to a Jet2 aircraft that conducted a flapless approach a few weeks back. Now braking problems were encountered, but the aircraft used up a fair bit more of the runway to brake that is usualy for the B733srs.

Yet another cluttered colour scheme – reminds me of the Thomson.co.uk colours
