I see that the aforesaid Sea Fury is up for sale on GA Buyer’s website for £350K. An opportunity for the “Roundel Police” to put their money where their mouth is perhaps?

TJ–
Actually, a Fury painted rather like a Tempest would look like Ormond Haydon-Baillie’s CF-CHB…which was gorgeous, even if a bit contrived. Better at any rate than some of the liveries inflicted on my favourite airplane in recent years.
An R3350 “Skyfury”, with its four-blader, would look even nearer a Tempest. An actual Tempest painted as a Tempest, of course, would be nicest of all…even if the restorer “cheated” and used an R3350 swinging the prop the wrong way about…
Oh for $US650k…

Wasn’t the ex Wally Fisk T Mk.20 “Dragon of Cymru” for sale for $650,000 recently as well? Hope the Bradshaw Fury stays in Europe though. First saw it sitting in a hangar at Breckenridge, TX in 91. Just before it came to Europe. Never seen it fly though, which is a shame. A Norwegian pilot wanted to buy it some time ago, but when he suggested repainting it as a Tempest II things went sour very quickly!

She is still housed at Hurn and is due to fly early next month, subject to the usuals.
There’s an converted FB.11 for sale in the States for $650,000, so £350,000 is probably a fair price.

As I understand it the “French Connection” has been on and off and is currently off and the Fury is still at Bournemouth (?). I would imagine the cost of keeping it airworthy, with that big Centaurus up front, would exceed any possible airshow income. Let’s hope it finds a good home in the UK and doesn’t join the Reno Racers in the USA. Mind you, the sight and sound of those guys flat out round the pylons will stay with me for a long time even if they do have American engines.

I thought this aircraft had been sold and was going to France? It has been for sale a loooooooooong time, friend of mine looked at it in 2001, the £350k I believe was a hopefull price, suspect it would gohas gone for a lot less than that. Shame really as its one of Hawkers best and a fantastic aircraft to fly but that engine – difficult to maintain and it is a BIG aeroplane to look after.

Blimey, that seems cheap…When Spitfires and the like go for close to or over £1 million…
How about a forum whip round, and then we can give it a decent colour scheme..
PS, I’ll fly it for you all 🙂
