This item was made by the John Deere Tractor Company for Grumman Aircraft. Does anyone know what this part is, and what aircraft type it is from? Any information, as always, would be greatly appreciated.

Ian,
so far not much luck but former Grumman members think its pretty old, probably WW.2. More recent parts were all painted white. None of the guys remembers these green parts being used in jet fighters, etc.

That would be great, thanks Andre.

Thanks for the responses. I’m hopeful there may yet be someone will come forward who recognises exactly what this is. I don’t plan to put it on another forum, as this would mean registering with another forum. I would be happy for you to post there Andre if you are willing to do so, with a link to this forum. That might just work!
Ian, I will give it a try and let you know if something comes up.

Thanks MM. I assume it is a serial number of the component, rather than the aircraft it would have been fitted to.

Please excuse my ignorance – not being much informed on such things, would the Serial No shown apply to the part type or to the particular aircraft onto which it was fitted? I was wondering if it possibly came from JV404 – the Wildcat which crashed on Bennan near Newton Stewart in 1945. Just a suggestion as it’s not a million miles from your location.

You may wanne put your question at http://www.tomcat-sunset.org/forums/index.php as well. They have many old Grummies around who should be able to answer your question.

Looks like a hydraulic flap jack…don’t know what aircraft part number 283XXX might be, blue anodised fitting might be 1950’s…

A good choice by Grumman, a component made by the John Deere tractor company for their aircraft. They both enjoy a reputation for strength! 😀
