Journalists in this war

I can’t believe how the coalition is manipulating and even threatening neutral journalists. Yesterday a Belgian and a Dutch journalist (VRT-KRO) were arrested, but they could escape. Seems like only those fat-ass Hilton propapanda CNN-journalists have the right to broadcast. Are there things we are not allowed to know? Maybe because this war is messier than those embedded journalists are saying it is.

Rule 1. The media is very powerful.

No one is forced to read it here, Comet. I suggest you stop this drinking Belgian beer for a while cause it affects your brain apparently.

I didn’t know Simpson was in the convoy attacked yesterday. I feel bad for those soldiers and Kurdish freedom fighters-slash-terrorists (oops, sorry, shouldn’t have said that) who were killed. I just thought they arrested him and kept him for a while in prison, like they did with the other non-embedded journalists.

Geforce – you are the most pathetic little pr*ck on the forum, your views are not worthy of the space they take up. I suggest you go away and take a long hard look at your silly opinions.

Overheard the landlady of my local pub the other night saying she’d just discovered Paxman on Newsnight.
That’s the sort of journalist that should be set on politicians.
I once heard him described as the BBC’s Rottweiler.
Apt, I thought.

Geforce

In case you thought John Simpson was rude just to Pim
Fortuyn, you should know he isn’t easy on other politicans whether in Britain or elsewhere.

I’ll never forget the interview he had with Gadaffi when Gadaffi farted throughout the interview! Simpson kept a straight face throughout (just!) and didn’t bat an eyelid!

Pim Fortuyn was a politican (sad he’s dead-some interesting views-don’t have to agree with everything he said) but just like many politicans he loved the sound of his own voice. Here in Britain journalists are not so craven as to treat an straight (no pun intended) interview as an audience with the Queen (even if he was a queen-again, no offense anyone!).

John Simpson is a top man!

Best regards
Tony

Geforce, John Simpson was the guy that was punched on the nose by a British prime minister! (Wilson or Super Mac, not sure which).

Definitely not an arse licker as you imply.

Read his autobiography!

I think you’re being a general with your answers Geforce. Journalists are like anyone else, judges, traffic cops or computer salesmen, you get some you like and others you might not.

John Simpson is a solid reporter of the facts, possibly he got a bit swept up with the euphoria of liberating Kabul .The worst thing about being a journalist is that your mistakes are exposed for everybody to see.

But Simpson is nothing compared to people like Fox’s Geraldo Riviera who declares he wants to personally kill Saddam or Osama – he was too much even for the US army who kicked him out him out of Iraq the day.
Then on the other side, you get the entire crew from AL Jazeera who see themselves as crusaders for Arab cause, you might possibly include Sky’s David Chater here as well.

🙂 🙂

Yvan, I’ve seen the documentary when he reached Kabul. It was like HE in person liberated Kabul. And he was well protected, unlike the journalists from smaller TV-stations who have limited budgets.

Apart from that, I’ve also seen him interviewing the legendary Dutch politician Pim Fortuyn. His remarks were rude and not at all worthy of a journalist. Arthur, have you seen this?

Anyway, I’m not here to offend journalism in general. In fact, I would like to become one. But the way some journalists, mainly from huge press agencies and TV-stations behave is shamefull.

Geforce,

I’d just like to point out that not only is John Simpson an excellent journalist he’s also one who has a long history of disagreeing with the establishment.

In 99 he had a row with the UK government about his reports from Belgrade which showed how hard life was during the air campaign – stuff the Government didn’t really want people hearing at the time. After that he was nearly fired by the BBC for not towing the line.

During the US’ war in Afghanistan he trotted around with the Northern Alliance troops and went into Kabul before any other journalist, risking possible arrest torture and possibly death at the hands of the Taliban (it wasn’t known at the time whether they had relinquished control of the city yet).

Currently John Simpson is in Northern Iraq going on patrols with Kurdish front line troops and with US special forces. He was injured when US planes bombed a Kurdish patrol which had ventured into Iraqi territory.

He is hardly a Hilton kinda guy.

You’re right about journalists in general but you’re wrong about John Simpson – I won’t hear a word against him.

I do not have any particular like or dislike of journalists but that response is somewhat immature.

Sorry, I shouldn’t have said that. I just hate those John Simpson war journalists (BBC) who stay in a fancy hotel and when the danger is cleared, they are the ones who march into the cities together with the soldiers. Journalists from small TV-stations or freelance have to risk their but to bring us the news.

Just because you’re not paranoid doesnt mean they’re not watching you.
