JU 88 Crash RAF Thorney 18 April 1941

Hi

I wondered if anyone had any information regarding the crash site for the JU 88 which was shot down on 18th April 1941 at RAF Thorney. I know the details of the crew etc but I am looking for the details of the exact crash location. Thanks

Hi

Thank you for the information. I can assure you that an archaeological examination of the site is scheduled by a highly reputable university. I would be grateful if you could check your records as it could be of great assistance to us.

Any further information would be gratefully received.

Thank you

I have a record somewhere of it crashing on the ‘Northern Landing Ground’ – make of that what you will! I also have a vague memory of an eye witness report claiming that at least some of it came down in Emsworth harbour near the ‘Lord Raglan pub’. Again, make of that what you will. If you succeed in finding the exact crash site good luck persuading the Army to let you dig it as they seem to resent visitors these days. Even getting to the cemetery (where the crew are buried) is a stressful experience.
