Ju52 Wreck 1940

Hi

I found this picture amongst some photos of scuttled German ships in a fjord near Narvik. These pictures were obtained by my grand father at the end of the war. I guess this must be the remains of a Ju52 float plane – it looks a little like a taxi lane marked in the water behind it. I guess this was destroyed on the ground by air attack.

I am not sure if it was associated with the scuttled ships as these were running from British attach when they ran out of ammo and were scuttled, so wouldn’t have been back at a ‘home’ base.

I have photos of the ships on my flickr account if anyone is interested

No worries Ivan… membership applications for the LEMB are not automated, so what with having to make detailed checks into each application (and getting some much needed beauty sleep) it can take anywhere up to 8 hours for any application to be approved…

Spot on Peter, I got sent the same photo many years ago by the curator at Bodo when doing the ‘Then & Now’ article on the Lk.Hartvik Ju52s

This appears to be one of the Ju52’s coded DB+?? which was used by 3./KGrzbV105 and landed on the frozen lake Hartviksvannet during supply operations in the Narvik area during April 1940.

We have a thread on the Ju52’s lost over on the LEMB here and there is also an interesting list here

Cheers
Pete
