Whilst tidying a pile of Classic Wings magazines I opened the 2002 issue marked Vol 9 No 1 and spotted a rather lovely wreck recovery of a Ju88 (W/nr 088.1203 4N+EH) from its crash site near Nordkyn (I assume in a lake, it doesn’t say! The photos show it on a flat plain of rocks!)
It is in remarkable condition in the photo, almost as good as the recent He111 pulled from a lake.
The article states a second Ju88 was also recovered at the same time (W/nr 088.0797 4D+HA of KG30).
So, in the ensuing three years or so, what has become of these airframes? Have they been restored? There was apparently very little corrosion on the first airframe and I wondered if anyone had considered restoring it to full static display or even flyable condition?
How many Ju88’s have been recovered from lakes now? There’ve been a fair few haven’t there?

Dave
The aircraft depicted in the issue never was in a lake, it crash landed where it lies. It is currently under restoration in Hungary using parts of the second mentioned in the article. There is an update in Issue 45.
