Hello all,
Finally fixed my scanner! Here are just four of the hundreds of photos taken in Edmundston, New Brunswick, Canada in early July during our Lancaster work week. Photos illustrate how NICE the Packard Merlins are. #1 and 2 are 100% complete and as landed on July 14th, 1964. #3 and 4 had several components removed by Canadian Warplane Heritage in 1986 – Mags, ignition looms, cooling pipes etc…however other than that they are complete and also as landed in ’64! Bomb bay doors opened for the first time in 40 years as well – hydraulic jacks were as smooth as silk. All spinners removed, sanded and colour matched to original RCAF red, props cleaned, lightly sanded and painted for protection. #4 spinner housed three baby American Hawks – they found a new condo not far away.
Next steps – Work days in October include setting up small display case in terminal building for KB882 parts, history, photos and donation box. Edmundston City Council has appointed “Lancaster Board” and allocated funds to begin major media and fund raising activities.
Cockpit canopy rebuild begins this winter in my Garage!
This old, tired Warbird is finally getting the attention she deserves.
Cheers,
Troy Kirkby

P_J – immediate plans are to preserve what we have so little further deterioration occurs. Building a hangar and workshop are top of the list so that real restoration work can take place. KB882 will be restored in her post WW2 RCAF silver and white livery. This is to include cameras and photographic accessories as she last flew with 408 Squadron. We ultimately desire to have her in ground running/taxi condition.
Cheers,
Troy
