The local morning paper’s travel department has been advertising packages in New York for this winter, and is quite specifific these will involve scheduled flights from Liverpool to New York with Zoom.
Do they know something we don’t? Flyglobespan’s experience on LPL-JFK hasn’t been a terribly happy one with well-publicised serviceability and other problems and noisily disgruntled passengers, and the route has been dropped from the winter schedules.
But there hasn’t been a squeak in public from either the LPL management or Zoom. Anyone know what’s going on?

The NEOS contract ends soon.
Our new 767 is in India at the moment replacing one of the 767s [G-CEFG] while it is having its C check. Once FG is bk in service, either FG but more likely PT will be sent bk for the winter schedule.
The Icelandair 757s r goin also.
Our 757 will be stayin for a while yet.
We have an MOD contract, and some SFBs due to be done on the 757.
The other SFBs, some YHMs and the CPTs will be done on our 767.
After the farce of this summer, there will be no more lease aggreements for winter or summer 08.

GLA-SFB has been a great success and loads on BOS are really picking-up.
Its mainly the English routes that have struggled due to GSM not being to well known down south.
If you ask me GSM should stick to there home market where they can make routes work…

The NEOS 767’s will go later this year.
There is another 767 recently arrived at GSM, ex Air NewZ. That will go to Air India and one of the 767’s (GCDPT)already there will return to the uk shortly and will operate some of the long haul flights (CPT/YVR i think)I believe GSM’s own 757 is going and the IcelandAir leases are going to end soon.
Apparently one of the 757’s will be operating to SFB during the winter.
I take it from that that Globespan’s forray into the long-haul market has been an unmitigated disaster, and they are sticking to short-haul from now on? Or are they going to have another stab at it next summer?

Does anyone know what Globespan’s immediate fleet plans are in the long haul respect ? Are the Neos 767’s going to be replaced, will the Icelandic 757’s be returned etc ? What’s happening with the 767’s that went to Air India ?

Zoom are getting one of the Canadian Reg’s for this winter so i’m sure theres more than a few NYC charters planned.
Heard they were going double daily on the JFK route.
CWL is certainly hoping something comes of it. If LGW-BDA-JFK works, then maybe LGW-CWL-JFK will.
The problems in LGW should have been sorted or will be soon, as mentioned before with their ETOPS cert.

I see it’s now a ‘special flight’

As previously mentioned in another thread, judging by how badly ZOOM UK’s services are doing out of LGW presently, I do not see this being a success…but odd one-off flight might work ok through specific tour operators!:D

ZoomUK are doing a one off CWL-JFK this winter. Its an offer in the local newspapers, not sure of the tour operator. But theres often offers to Canada, USA and a range of others places.
Thats probably the same as LPL then, as nothing is on sale from LPL to JFK for the coming winter and its too late now to start selling seats.
BTW, I dont think anyone belived GSM when they said they would be operating LPL-JFK next summer.

GSM r pulling out of the LPL-JFK route completely.
We have no plans at the moment to open new routes or continue out of LPL.
We have a quieter winter this year and its unlike anything new will start.
A clean up of the shambles is prob whats on the menu.Zoom only had an involvement with us for a few months, when helping us to start up our YYZ flts last winter. We took full involvement from May 07 onwards and into Hamilton instead of Pearson.
You’re cabin crew, yes ?

That would be a logical explanation as I can’t find any other reference to this new service. Research indicates that the U.S. are not or were not happy with Zoom’s routes to the U.S. from the U.K. due to the assumed Canadian ownership.
Which would explain the “Zoom UK” start up ? Incidentally the Canadian version was actually set up by John and Hugh Boyle of Motherwell Scotland. They used to run Direct Holidays, sold up and moved their money to Canada…

I’m inclined to agree with Newforest and Ren Frew, but the one thing that still niggles is that Flyglobespan announced back at the beginning of July that the JFK route was being dropped at the end of October.
The press release http://www.uk-airport-news.info/liverpool-airport-news-040707.htm has Flyglobespan promising a summer service next year and the LPL management “confident that the link will be restored”.
The Liverpool Daily Post, who travel pages have been advertising the NY packages using winter schedules (my italics) right up to last week, has hinted that talks with other potential operators are/have been taking place.
All we can do is watch this space, I suppose.

Er… I think Globespan invited Zoom UK to operate some of their long haul flights, owing to the difficulty they were having with their equipment… Could be wrong but I think that’s what’s happening… ?
