Just a quick question. Spitfires P9374 and N3200

Sorry chaps but I have been out of the loop for a bit, France first, then skulking down in the West Country. Whilst contemplating a visit to the helicopter museum down there (and deciding against it) my mind turned to aircraft far more beautiful, specifically the Mark 1 ‘twins’

I know N3200 was gifted to the IWM. Is there any information on what will become of it.

P9374 went to ‘A European buyer’ as I recall? Do we know who? Has it left the UK yet?

Sorry if this has been answered before, but searching the forum, even by serial number, turns up one or two more answers than are easily managed on a smartphone.

N9374 was bought by a private collector in the USA…Who for the moment is remaining anonymous.

My bet is its a collector with no interest in aviation

It’s quite sad if that is the case. Of course the owner is fully entitled to do what they please with the aircraft. But it would have been nice to see it go to someone with some enthusiasm, as it is a shame P9374 missed the 75th anniversary displays. I do hope we haven’t seen the last of her in the skies.

Shame you decided against the IHM Moggy – only 20 minutes from home; I could have helped educate you in the arcane world of rotary flight! That said, I can’t argue that Mk1 Spitfires are more beautiful than any helicopter ever made unless, of course, you’re an ejectee on the end of a wire or a soldier on a stretcher. If you’re in the SW again, PM me.

If you are right, and all of this is speculation, it doesn’t sound likely that those of us with an interest in seeing her fly, are likely to do so.

The engineer for the Jordanians did visit, but my understanding was that it was stated that if they bid, then it would be off to the owner as soon as the money cleared. By the fact it remains in the hangar, I think it’s safe to assume they didn’t bid.

My bet is its a collector with no interest in aviation

Was there not a stipulation in the sale for it to remain in the uk?

Seems such a shame it missed all the big events – but hey it’s not money!!

Was any authority quoted to support that claim?

You are playing games. I think you know full well where this came from.

There was a suggestion in the recently published guide to the Battle of Britain flypast aircraft that P9374 had been bought by a member of the Jordanian Royal Family

Was any authority quoted to support that claim?

No

A search on the Companies House website shows that neither of those two have been Directors for several years

One of the projects (Seafire Mk.III RX168 G-BWEM) is now registered to a new owner.

Hope this helps.

On related note is it known what may be happening with the Mark One Partners project aircraft, there was another Mk1 and 2 Seafires registered to them?

Nothing has been released, and it remains dismantled at Duxford.

I don’t think we know more other than what was paid for it and the charities who were to benefit from the sale.
