Just an awesome Super Vita Mk 2 idea.

This is a pure gear loving doctrine ignoring technology love fest. So please enjoy and feel free to comment.

A few years back Vosper Tjornycroft proposed a Mk 2 version of the Super Vita (62m) FAC that has been delivered to Greece. The improved version would have an increased length of 68.9m, an increased displacement of 720tons and speed increased to 36knots. In addition to these improvements their were efforts to increase the stealth credentials of the type. I have never seen a picture of this design but I would love to if anybody has one???

Anyway, now to the fantasy awesomeness, I propose to take this design, upgrade the 76mm main gun to the new Strales mount (for guided ammunition of course), replace the two single 30mm Oto gun turrets with a single 35mm Millenium Ahead turret (as used by the Absalon class), use the RBS-15 Mk3 instead of Exocet (Does this mean only 4 missiles instead of 8?) and retain the 21 round RAM luancher but use the Mod 2 missile. For a CMS I would probably take the SAAB 9LV Mk4 as it seems to be becoming an industry favorite. Sensors would be the Thales I-Mast 100 fitted with Sea Master 400, Sea Watcher 100 and the Gatekeeper panoramic electro-optical surveillance system, together with the STING EO Mk 2 radar/electro-optical weapon control director. Such a combination has already been shown by Thales on a Super Vita as a computer genertaed image.

Oh by the way, this is part of my love of very well equipped small ships, actual small ships that is, not frigates masquerading as such (LCS anybody?)

As for the SSMs, you could choose Exocet Block3 instead of RBS-15. That’ll almost certainly allow you to keep 8 missiles (I assume they’ll be interchangable with the old models) while gaining a similar secondary land attack capability. Less warhead punch and slightly shorter range though.

Good point, and indeed the later Greek Super Vitas are getting the Blok 3, although I think I would take the Kongsberg NSM as a preference.

Frankly I think the likes of this are beyond Georgia right now. Mobile land based AShM’s would be a good bet along with KAAN 33 type missile boats (120 tons full load) from Turkey. Midget submarines might be useful but I cant think of anybody who makes decent ones right now.

you’ve found yourself a niche market then!! haha

Missile boat looks bloody capable.. who do you work for!? :p

I do like the idea, though obviously it has it’s limitations.

In order to (hopefully) avoid the likes of Star49 and Echonine chiming in, I’ll ask this here… What do think the (potential) rebuilding of the Georgian Navy should look like? Should they go for small missile boats, a la Sealord’s Super Vita Mk2? Should they focus instead on shore-based defences (e.g. truck-mobile anti-ship missiles), a bit more like the Cypriot Navy seem to?
