Just an idea….

Gents,

As a guy allways on the brink to try to solve the problems by my poor “slammed by cuts” USAF/USN-friends, I came to this idea ;

We all know the fact that since the phasing-out of the F-4G the AirForce lacks some real Wild-weasel-capability. And we all know (and understand) the dislike of the Navy for their F-18E Superhornets.
Well, why don’t the USAF buys some ~150 F/A-18F SuperHornets for its anti-SAM warfare. The aircraft is certainly capable for such tasks (with some minor modifications); two-seater, longrange, high weaponload of 4 HARM together with 3 Fueltanks and selfdefence, proven dammagesurvivability,…

Together with the wild Weaselversion the USAF can take delivery for some other ~150 F-18G Growler variant to support the them in the jammingrole. directly solving the problem with the EF-111 replacement.

No R&D money in this way is lost. We all know the F-16C is not that capable as SAM-hunter, the USAF cannot wait another ten years for a WW-version of the JSF, the F-15E is too expensive.

Buying Typhoons of Rafales would be perfect but I guess the USAF (or actually the US DoD) would perfere even Hornets above non-US equipment so…why not ?

OK, its just an idea, but its not so bad isn’t it. It is better than having NOTHING.
Can I become Secretary of Defence now in the new Bush-administration.

greetings
