Just an Idea (No.431): Revamp Original Dambusters Film

As everyone knows the original Dam Busters film (as uncensored by PC brigade), will always be much better than the planned remake. Thing is, can the original be made even better?

A few years ago, the makers of Star Wars re-released the film, which was digitally enhanced – with many of the Special Effect shots (space battles, etc) being replaced with digital generated space CGI shots.

Now imaging The Dam Busters (original), where the attack scene was enhanced, along with ground shots of Scampton, showing an airfield full to the brim with Lancasters. What do you think? Obviously it would be important to match 2008 digital shots with the 1950s cinematography, while preserving the same pace, but I think it would work.

What do you think?

…Just an Suggestion.

…But you’d end up with a 10 page thread here about directors messing about with old films and using bad CGI – “why can’t they leave it alone?” etc. 😉 😉

I think it is an excellent idea…though how financially viable I’m not sure…CGI technology is not cheap.

I’ve toyed with this idea myself…I even suggested it on this forum, where the limited response was that it wasn’t a good idea as it would please neither those who liked the original version or those who wanted a new version. 😮

Personally I think that ‘The Dambusters’ is the ideal choice for this treatment; there is nothing wrong with the original acting and much of the film would remain unchanged. As for the mission itself it is badly let down by the special effects of the day.

How about this for an idea. Why not use the CGI from the re-make and graft it onto the original? Limited extra work would be required and it could be released as a ‘package’ with the re-make.

Yes, uncensor the bouncing bombs, they are spherical in the first film.
Think censorship has always been an issue with these things!
