Anyone care to have a guess at what this sliver of an airframe is? I bet someone here gets it very quickly! More to be revealed if not…

Here’s the uncropped shot. Another puzzler later on anyone?

T6Flyer
Sorry I pipped you to the post – but it’s comforting to know there’s someone else out there as sad as I am i.e. able to recall such esoteric details!

Must remember to learn to type quicker and I may have got there first 🙂

I think it’s the Fairey Battle which Strathallen obtained, passed to Charles Church and is now in Brussels. I recall that at one time it was owned by a US gent who endorsed it with stars and bars?
Full marks to that gentleman! Exactly right. And credit to T6Flyer too.
I’ll post the full image up later on. I knew it wouldn’t get past the assembled expertise on this forum for long!

No-one’s very close yet, I’m afraid.
I don’t want to make it *too* easy, but let’s just say that the markings of this machine are less than 100% accurate.
Its not the ex Strathallen Fairey Battle by any chance is it?
Remember seeing a photo of it ‘somewhere’ with the fuselage being moved outside. It wore a star and stripes then.

Show us a tiny bit more!
I shall – this evening. I’m at work now and the original image isn’t!
By: WebPilot - 17th February 2006 at 12:03
Probably about to be ridiculed with this but might it be a spitfire?
Oooo. No.

Grumman J2F-6 Duck (USAF designation OA-12)?
If so, the post-1948 star-and-bar would indicate that it was operated by the USAF Air Rescue Service in Alaska.

Jan
Sorry Jan, but it’s not a Duck!
All is not as it might appear.

p-80?
No…
Ok, no-one’s really got very close yet, so a little clue. It’s a single engined type that survives in small numbers.
More image to be revealed later!
