Just found this on Hannants website

I recall a while back some discussion about Luftwaffe-marked Spitfires, and the Alpine Fighter Collection’s Mark 16 was discussed.

There’s a better image of the Decalset on this page: http://www.dutchdecal.nl/kaw.htm (well, it’s in colour…)

Griffon Spit decals

I was looking for some decals for a 208 Sqdn Spitfire 18, and I don’t think I found any! Griffon Spits are a poorly represented example, at least in modelling terms… 🙁

It does not come up on Pathe’s site search – I had already tried that – but as the site only displays short clips and has only 3500 hours of footage from over a century of their operation, logic tells me that not their entire vaults collection happens to be online.

I’m sure some company will have filmed the airshow, there’s lots of early Farnborough airshow footage about (certainly 1952 when John Derry was killed in the de Havilland 110). It doesn’t mean I can instantly find it on a website.

Yes, there are some air-to-air shots of it in the back of, IIRC, one of Alfred Price’s Spitfire books.

I’m sure someone can furnish us with a photo??

I never saw the earlier thread, but TB863 was one of a squadron of MkXVI Spitfires that were painted up to represent a squadron of Bf109’s and used to battle a Sqn of Mosquitoes at the 1950 Farnborough airshow, in a re-enactment of the Amiens raid. At least one photo of the Spit in those colours was published in New Zealand Wings Magazine in the early 1990’s. Also a friend of mine was actually at the show and said the display was awesome.

I wonder if the Pathe or Movietone cameras or equivalent caught this mock attack on film?
