Just gotta gloat a bit!

It seems like just a few years ago I was lamenting about complete lack of a warbird scene here in Ottawa. HOW TIMES HAVE CHANGED!!

It’s starting to feel more and more like Duxford. Okay, so we’ve got a ways to go. But thanks to Michael Potter and Vintage Wings Canada, it’s becoming a hot bed for warbirds around here.

Case in point – this weekend. I used to envy those over in the UK who just happened to look out from their office, or look up from their garden and see a Spitfire or Mustang heading this way or that. But yesterday, while at an event at my kids’ school, I looked up to see two CL415 water bombers fly overhead, followed by a flight from Vintage Wings – the Hurricane followed by the Spitfire and the Mustang. We saw them a few times yesterday morning. And now again today, the formation flew right over my house. Fantastic!!!

The event they are flying for is a memorial for fallen firefighters. I’m not sure if yesterday was just a practice run for today, or what. But I’m certainly not complaining at getting to see that fantastic formation fly by two days in a row. And then next Sunday they’ll be up again for the Battle of Britain Day ceremony, hopefully accompanied by the CWH Lancaster from Hamilton as they were last year.

Yes, the warbird scene around here sure has improved. Thanks again Mr. Potter, for sharing your passion with us!!!

Pleased to see your warbird population improving-don’t forget you still have more Lancs & farmers hiding aircraft in barns than we do over here-enjoy ’em & ask for more.;)
