Just Jane at East Kirkby – Night run

Here are the images I took at the final Just Jane run of the season. To say it was a cold night would be an understatement!

On with the images,

The Spitfire (which displayed as the sun was setting)

Great shots of the Lancaster. Is it an airworthy airframe!

I understand the tail is. At least it has left the ground on occasion.

But I don’t think there’s room anymore. Don’t know for sure.

Sadly not. I would love to see her airborn with PA474 and the CWH one in the air together. Now that would be a sight to see. Actually, thinking about it I do believe that she is in airworthy condition and is prevented from flying by red tape. Thought I’d better correct myself there before I get berated for misrepresentaion.:D

Those shots in the dark make it easy to imagine her at the head of 11 more like her heading out for the night’s business.

The B&W shot is superb. Takes you back to a whole different era of aviation.

Cheers Mike. That was quite odd actually. I’d just popped out of the hanger for a round of tea from the NAAFI van and promptly walked into a time warp!

Seriously, as a ‘living history’ society (who were they – anyone know? Be worth looking out for again), they were very good and gave a super presentation in the hangar during the evening before the night run of ‘611.

Superb shots Darren. Just thought I’d add a couple of my modest efforts (none of her taxi-ing though – forgot my tripod and by that time 1Group had taken his back to the car. Mind you, we’d have wound up bickering as to who was going to use it!).

A superb, if freezing day out, mitigated by lots of excellent burgers and chips and buckets of atmosphere! Well done to everyone at EK for another great end of term bash!

Superb photos, Darren. East Kirkby has real atmosphere, especially when there are Merlins running. I visited there on a wet day last month when I took a few rather poor photos of the Lanc. taxying and the Spit. in the hangar.
