Just Jane news?

A final decision must be any day now. I have no doubt that the money and the engineering skills are there, but I’m concerned about the EU regulations that grounded Pink Lady and nearly grounded Sally B. Surely they will put a spanner in the works?

Confirmation on a return to the air for Just Jane

The Panton brothers were on BBC Lincolnshire this morning, confirming that Just Jane is to be returned to the air, estimating the work will take approximately 12 – 14 months once all parts are in place at East Kirkby. Suggested total time is approximately 2 years !

:) Mixed feelings on this from me.
Question, IF She is made airworthy ,will this do away the facility for riding in her as she does now?.
Good luck and may they all stay safe and sound.

The BBMFs future is not as fragile as one may led to be believed. IMHO

Too late for NU Labour tossers to do anything about them, a huge negative publicity campaign would ensue right before an election and a guaranteed vote loser. Still, I wouldn’t put it past these idiots to ‘threaten’ their existance publically, then pull off a coup by ‘saving them for the country’ at the last minute, even though there was not threat to begin with. These tossers will do anything, anything to get back into power.

I digress.

It’s going to be great to see Just Jane back in the air again, and I hope she retains the Upkeep fit out for as long as possible when she starts regular shows.

Fantastic news. The thought of NX611 formating with PA474 is one to savour.

Personally, I’m all for putting as many older aircraft back in the air as possible.

My main worry is with the BBMF, what will this do to them?

With the MOD cutting costs, will they decided to axe funding for there lanc as theres another one airworthy in the UK? If so why not axe the whole flight?

I see good and bad with this decision, the fact that in X ammount of years we will have another lanc to see flyinh, and thats fantastic news, however is this a bitter-sweet decission?

Only time will tell!

Do we need another flying Lanc?

I strongly suspect the demand for appearances (not just airshows and large events, but also all the small events it and the BBMF supports in transit around the country) by PA474 is more than it is capable of, so in some ways, yes.

I think this is exciting news and I cant wait to see her in the air. Do we need another flying Lanc? As has been asked before it is like saying do we need another Spitfire or Mustang? I agree with Daz – why not?

At the end of the day this is the culmination of several years of hard work and the realisation of two mens dream of seeing their own Lancaster in the air. As the brothers said in the radio interview ‘Its a memorial to Bomber Command, dont ever forget it’

I for one hope they acheive their dream. The very best of luck to them.

No, obviously not, but you could use the same argument for B-17s in the States, surely?

Why not? There are a dozen or so B-17s flying, so why not another Lanc?

I’m all for it, personally.

Just Jane was doing just fine for the taying rides. But as we all know it’s the owners who are paying for it.

It won’t be long before the next generation of kids will just think that all fighter pilots flew Spitfires and all Bomber pilots flew Lancs.

Not a good move but it is their aeroplane so they can do what they want.

Rubbish. I’d be more worried that the future generations won’t even know of the historical significance and personal sacrifice associated with any of the aeroplanes you name in your post.

And remember too, that this aeroplane is the way in which the Panton’s pay a personal tribute to their brother, who IIRC, was Halifax aircrew (unless you wish them to conjure up a non existent airframe).

I think that it will just push the Halifaxes, Stirlings, Whitley, Wellingtons etc even further back into the backwarters of WWII history and elivate the Lanc to even higher mythical status….

There seems to be various assumptions that the Pantons are doing this just in order to get it onto the airshow circuit and generate revenue.

Perhaps they just want to see it fly, perhaps their own business has provided sufficent funds to enable their hobby to progress further. They are not getting any younger after all. If I had the money, I would just do it because ‘I can’.

Perhaps a well known Kiwi benefactor is funding the rebuild for use in a certain film? The eyewatering level of revenue generated these days by top director films would laugh at the cost of even returning a Lancaster to the skies.

Exciting days, let the speculation continue with even more outrageous themes.

Surely there’s enough demand/business on the airshow circuit for 2 Lancs- I mean, of all the requests for the Lanc (or any of their little gems) they must recieve, how many do they find they’re unable for whatever reason to honour, so have to decline? Specially over the Summer months, I’d have thought this must be a problem the BBMF face.

Look around the rest of East Kirkby and wait for her to come back? 😉
