Just wondering how many Aussie's are here?

I have a idea (but it may be impractical)

Well if any of you are ever in the vicinity of Leighterton you may like to pop into the cemetery there and pay your respects to the AFC guys that never went home

Hmmm.

My passport says otherwise. Roo & Emu on the front.

Rather like the English in India, y’know. Trying to civilise johnny foreighner… In my case, here, it’s a lost cause. Like my spellin. 😉

Fancy doing an Ashes commentry? The AiB / JDK show!

Still we OUGHT to give the thread back!

A Fiver….

Do you want to send me the Fiver now or give it to me next year!

Anyway you’re just a mock Australian. A ‘Plastic’ to use current ‘Estuary’ terminology.
There are tribes that inhabit the Amazonian rain forrest as yet undiscovered by Western civilisation that have got members who sound more Australian than you do.
Do you want my address for the cheque???

See Ya
Andy 😀 😀 😀 😀

PS Why don’t you just quietly admit your English??–It’s not that bad really.

Yeah, right.

Still can’t find a Pom prepared to lay a fiver on their team…

And, no, that’s not an open invitation to the forum. I’ll see the colour of your money at an airshow if you are that gung-ho on the England team. Still, Steve W is retired now, so your chances have increased from ‘nil’. 😉

And in a choice between supporting England or Aus, why support England? Even my English friends find it hard to do when the Ashes come around…

I take grave exception to that comment Mr K.
You might get a rude shock next Summer.

I don’t know who to support in the cricket

That’s easy. Thanks to ‘Tebbet’s Cricket Test’ support whoever’s playing the Poms.

Cheers

We’re the ones who don’t have Gregan as an umpire… 😀

S’me, late again (as usual)

Yep, another Aussie (well, what else could I be with a monicker like Wombat?)

Aussie born, Brit father, Aussie mum, sometimes suffer an ID crisis when I don’t know who to support in the cricket.

Fiercely supportive of things Oz, just wish there were more of them (especially aviative).

Don’t know about bringing some clapped out old pommy shed back home – probably wouldn’t get through quarantine anyway! 😀

Regards

Wombat

See Andy, I told you that there was no truth to those rumours that you were spreading about Patterson’s Meat Pies.

Patty’s in lurk mode at present.
He’s wandering in the South Texas wilderness on a secret mission.
I await his response to all that’s been said.
I wondered if JDK was buried at the bottom of a swimming pool as Ben Kingsley was in Sexy Beast.
‘Night all.

Or, on the other hand, wouldn’t it be more worthwhile / easier to arrange for a commemoration on site, to record the history of those Aussies in the UK?

Taking the same idea in a different direction, the Canadian Air Force was formed in 1918 at Upper Heyford, Oxon, UK (and just up the road from me…) Not a lot of people know that, and it was funny being in the Canadian National Archives, in Ottawa, looking at pics of W.W.I ace Barker in a Fokker D.VII at U. Heyford in 1918 with a maple leaf painted on the side…

I agree about the on site commemoration.
Could one of the buildings be restored in situ?

James
My favourite Barker story is that Queen Mary banned The Prince of Wales (later Edward VIII) from ever flying again after she found out that Barker had flown him in a Sopwith Dove.
Why the panic??
Well Barker ‘stunted’ in the Dove with the heir to the throne as passenger. Well? His arm was still in a sling from the action where he won the V.C taking on seven D.VII’s in a Snipe.
Edward obviouly overcame the ban as he was a keen pilot himself later.
Cheers
Andy

Interesting idea, VB.

Expensive, but possible with the right ‘pull’ and sponsorship.

O.K have any of you read the book ANZACS over england? after i had read it i was curious to see if you could still see any signs of the old AFC airfields at Leighteton and Minchinhampton so i went over to Gloucestershire a few weeks ago to have a look, i found a few small buildings still standing from the AFC days but in a poor state of repair. now i was thinking how great it would be if you could dismantle one of the small buildings and re-erect it at Point Cook. What do you reckon?

This thread must NOT go to Cuba, as it has one of those chipboard door thingys to protect the thread pilot from mad razor weilding maniacs…

On topic.

Hello. Expat Aussie, Melbourne born & bred, living in UK, just back from 6 1/2 weeks in Ontario, plus mad dash to Oshkosh…

Off topic (hijack)

Thanks Andy, A-O, and Robbo, more in a couple of days when I’ve had a chance to sort several billion pics and thoughts…

Back to topic now. (sorry VB ;))
