Just wondering how many pictures do people tend to take on average a year

I’m not going to worry about which part goes twang. My Nikon D7000 is rated for 150000 shutter actuations. I would need to have it for another 10 years before I reach that sort of number. My D80 has around 35000 actuations and is still going strong.

Had my DSLR for a year and a half, probably no more than 2000 in that time.For those really high count (amateur) users, which part of the mech of the camera is likely to go twang first – would it be the mirror flip/return, or shutter ? – assuming a good quality ‘prosumer’ camera, not a pro jobby.

I used to take a lot in the days of film. 20 rolls a year. Now with digital I’ve lost interest except for the occasional snap.
Maybe a hundred.
As I’m getting older I would rather experience than constantly record for the sake of it.

10000 sounds about right then, this may well increase with my new camera as my old one could only take 3 shots before it took 5 seconds to save them to the card then i could do another 3, but my new one can do between 7 and 10 before saving them because the processor is all being used so the 10000 could easily increase to near on 20000 in this next year and start decreasing again once i become less tigger happy haha, but so looking forward to next year as i can do things i havent been able to do before and i have the new camera to test out properly

On my SLRs, 2013 is around 8500 on two cameras, 2012 was 23000 on two cameras, 2011 11000, 2010 12000 etc. So 10000 seems reasonable.

I take a lot with my phone now as it is a lot more convenient and just as good as a compact

I don’t regard myself as a “photographer” but as someone who enjoys taking photographs. I have no idea how many unedited ones I took but over the last 12 months a quick tot up reveals about 2,000 edited, filed photos.
