Hello all,
Semi-regular lurker, rarely a poster. But as I had the chance to visit the Kalamazoo Air Zoo a few weeks back, I thought I’d share a few photos with you. My impression of the new facilities is rather mixed – nice building, some nice displays, but it seems to me that their effort to make the new mail hall more eclectic and less of a tribute to the warbirds (many of the most interesting items in the colleciton remain crowded in the old hall) make the display far less engaging than it might have been otherwise. The $19 entrance fee is a bit steep too. No longer can you tour the refurb shop as it’s inside the K’zoo airport grounds and access is limited owing to security concerns. It was good to see the XP-55 Ascender put together and on display.
Enjoy,
Zoomie

Which type of blackbird is that a B or a titanium goose ?
There was only a couple of 2 seaters with raised cockpits built.
Nice pics though.

It’s an SR71-B. There was only one built in this configuration. The titanium goose was really an A-12B.

Nice to see a Buchon in something other than a luftwaffe scheme

Thanks for the comments everyone. I’ve been visiting the Air Zoo on and off for a good number of years. My brother has done occasional research for them – was involved in the paint scheme for the F7F, so I have a special place in my heart for that lovely big bird. Wish I could have seen it fly.
I was also disappointed not to see the Cliff Robertson Spitfire there too – but understand it’d been away for some time now.
There are a number of interesting autos and motorcycles tucked into vaious corners of the museum.
Thought you might like to see a few more pics as well.

Good shots Zoomie. The Blackbird presentation looks good. The one at Duxford is looking a bit unkempt and isn’t nearly as dramatic. The silver Ferrari 308GTS is interesting. I thought the Americans only bought the Rosso Corsa (red) versions.

May I also welcome you Zoomie….lovely shots…I must go there one day.
The P40 and P39 particularly caught my eye.
You will find that there are very few people on the board who are anal about spelling! Luckily most of us care about historic aircraft more than grammar and spelling!

Great museum, and I’d agree with your comments, except I was happy to pay the entry.

Sorry about the typo above – should read “new main hall” …
