Lemaster said that to minimize cost and risk in the reopened competition, Boeing will stick with a single model of either the 767 or the larger 777, depending on what requirements the Air Force stipulates.
This is either bad news in that the requirements for KC-X will be watered down so a base 767 can compete or good news in that we’re probably going to a dual buy of KC-30 and KC-777.
Given the current fiscal environment, my bet would be on a sucky, less capable plain 767 😡
The KC-767AT was at least a credible offering, if they water down KC-X enough to allow a base 767 to compete I’m going to throw up.
