Keep Formula 1 Free To Air in the UK

Quite right, Linc – we can only express our own opinion and I totally accept that it is a very popular sport. But returnng to the OP’s point, as I said earlier the deal is done between the BBC and Sky up to 2018, so I don’t see the point of the petition.

Say what you mean Pete, most on here are 50 yrs younger than us:D

I just preferred the old “seat-of-the-pants” driving when it was 80% driver and 20% car. Now it’s 95% car and 5% driver.:(

Lets go back to the good old days of the Turbos, when the men who drove them at least injected some spectator interest in the sport.when their turbos blew up.:eek:

swo true !! there was a superb programe on BBC 2 about formula 1 safetey on sunday i think

anyone who missed formula 1 on the old nurburgring era missed true F1

sure f1 is safer now but watching f1 cars airbourne at balls out racing speeds ( sometimes on a corner and partly sideways )was a spectacle that todays cars and drivers simply cannot supply the adrennaline

I used to avidly watch F1 but now I just find it boring.
Seems whoever starts in front ends in front in what has become a technical fest of perfection.

I have just found this on the BBC website. Since the deal has now been agreed until 2018 hasn’t your petition been overtaken by events?

Whilst on the subject of F1 did anyone happen to see the F1 program covering the accidents of the 60s’ and 70s’? being too young I wasn’t aware of how bad it was and the sheer volume of fatalities. A very sobering program.

Prefer F1 to many other BBC programs and would wish my share of the licence fee to go there.

Meaning that although you can watch it, you are assisting us terrestial mortals to continue to enjoy it. Noble sentiments, but I would prefer the BBC to spend a significant percentage of my valuable license fee on other programming. And I reckon there will be a few million who share my view. I understand that the viewing figures were very high when it was on Sky and have been lower on the BBC.

In any case isn’t the done deal for 2012 a split between Sky and the BBC, or have I misunderstood?

Sky High. Pete, I have Sky, but I don’t believe in keeping all my eggs in one basket, and as such, have signed the online petition.

I endorse your first sentence – with the odd exception. But frankly if free-to-air means the BBC then I would rather they spent my license fee in several other areas before F1.

I am surprised at the lack of response to this thread – I thought there was strong core support for F1 on here, but perhaps they’ve all got Sky.
