A worthy project, let’s hope that it’s just a beginning.

The HLF news release adds a little more substance to the whole project http://www.hlf.org.uk/news/Pages/wartimeaviationproject.aspx#.Ujnpkb5wbwo
e.g. “A Suffolk-based social enterprise, New Heritage Solutions CIC, has been awarded a grant of £575,000 from the Heritage Lottery Fund (HLF) to lead a three year programme of archaeology, oral history and museum development which will keep alive the momentous story of what’s become known as the ‘friendly invasion’ of the Second World War.”

I understand the ideas of collating the memories but sadly I feel they are very late in the day ! The three year project will cost nearly 20K a month – is it really going to achieve much that isn’t already documented ? Whilst I applaud anything that promotes the heritage – I fear that much of the money will be spent on office work and ‘interpreting’ with little in terms of anything tangiable.
And in answer to what I would do with the money -I would get the various East Anglian groups together and try and target projects that need support .

I believe that it’s based on a similar structure to the original Aviation Heritage Lincolnshire (AHL) project, which secured HLF funding – IIRC I provided some feedback when the East Anglian group were putting their proposal together; as did several other AHL participants.
Anything that promotes aviation should be applauded! 🙂

Are they actually doing anything new ? It seems that for years small museums have been recording the history of the U.S in the Eastern Counties -I hope some tangiable money gets into the hands of the museums themselves.

Hi Cees
It’s something we’ve looked into but put on hold for the time being. I think that we’ll need to have the drawings for the fuselage pretty well buttoned up before we can approach them and these will need to be incorporated into a definitive Project Plan. Then it will be all hands on deck

Can’t the Heritage lottery grant a similar amount to help the Stirling and Whitley projects?
