Keeping it in perspective

I’ve been reading the posts about the Firefly crash. I also saw the film on the news tonight. I see folks mourning the loss of the two members of the crew. I also see folks wondering if it’s worth it, will airshows disappear, how will people react etc etc.

Lets not forget something. You can bet your life that those two guys in that Firefly wouldn’t have traded places with anyone when they climbed in prior to that flight. How many of us would have loved to have been strapping in to that plane just before it took off.

Mourn them, remember them, praise their past work displaying that aircraft and keep going to the airshows cause its what we love. Flying is a risk, as are most worthwhile things out there. Crashs will continue to happen, it’s inevitable. I still think it’s worth the risk as an airplane strapped to the ground is just another piece of machinary. Without wind under the wings, what’s the point?

Who marvelled at the film as it was obvious the pilot was doing everything he could right up til he hit. Talk about courage. Yes I know he didn’t make it, but he never quit. A professional all the way.

I was there at Legends on the Saturday. It was strange but from where I was,in the F.O.D. tent,no-one was aware of what had happened until the commentator-who sounded very shaken-told us something serious has happened.
The emergency services responded at once and there was no panic from the spectators-both very commendable.
My friends and I left immediatly-it didn’t seem right to remain.

I thought I’d post this so that there’d be an account from someone who was there.
