Kelly Groucutt of ELO,ELO Part2 and Orchestra has died

He may or may not be a name you know, But he played a important part in the ELO sound and was a very talented musician and singer, And him with Orchestra in recent times were something really worth seeing.
He died of a heart attack today ages 63.

My wife,A friend and myself were due to see him play next friday and a small gig in Guildford.

Very sad.

My wife (a dedictated ELO fan) and I saw ELO Part 2 some years ago. Disappointingly Kelly didn’t sing because he was suffering from some illness, but he was there on stage playing guitar for the whole gig. A true professional and a great talent.

Very sad. As a dyed in the wool ELO fan this news I will remember for ever. The first member of THE group of my teens and early adulthood to die.

Kelly seemed to have time for those (like me) who saw ELO as more than a vehicle for Jeff Lynne’s talents.

No doubt the internet will be awash with expressions of sadness from Mr Lynne (not).

Kelly – bass player, singer, songwriter, friend to the fans – RIP.

I have never had the chance to see Jeff Lynne play anything live and very much doubt I ever will, Kelly brought the songs to life.

The messages of tribute to him on the forums and web sites show how much he was loved by the fans and how well he was respected, For me he was a approachable frontman who loved to bring the music to the fans.

The Orchestra the band he led are going to carry on the tour they had planned for May as a tribute, But sadly I can not see how it will work without Kelly.

A tribute page on BBC Birmingham.

Some You tube performances of Kelly

The sound and picture quality of some of these not too great but I hope they give a idea of what Kelly was like live.
All I can say is he was a fine showman, Who had talent in heaps A gentleman who had time for his fans.
I know some people always felt that Kelly and the guys were wrong to carry on with the ELO sound when Jeff Lynne left, But Kelly was very much part of the sound the band had and it was not like Jeff Lynne was taking these songs to the people anymore.
