The Blackburn Buccaneer Society will be providing the Airshow Rapid Response unit again this coming season.

Hope to get our Transit marked up for these events to that it can be recognised.

Also hope that my right hand man does not resemble a member of the Mafia again!!!!

Kemble have just changed their ‘smaller open day’ to a full-blown Battle of Britain -type show on 12th September, in addition to their June show. 😎

philo,
the event you refer to is the Great Vintage Flying Weekend, which this year is to be held at Abingdon over the weekend 15-16 May….although many VAC members do visit this event,it is NOT a VAC run event-all their regular events take place at Turweston

p.s. that makes 2 aviation events at Abbo in 2004,don’t forget the Abingdon Fayre on 2 May

Kemble Open Day

I received the following from Glen last week.

“Dear All,

Replacing the Delta Jets Open Day for 2004 will be the “Kemble Open Day”. This is planned to take place on Sunday 12th September and will be run along the lines of the very successful Kemble Air Day that is held every June.

This new event will see involvement from the RAF as well as based aircraft in a relaxed afternoon flying display. We are planning to give this event the feel of the old style RAF “At Home” days whereby all based operators will be encouraged to get aircraft out for static display and if possible provide a flying display. There will be the usual array of trade stands, concessions and exhibitions on site to provide interest for all the family”.

Assuming you mean the Popular Flying Association and not the Polyurethane Foam Association, then, yes, it is at Kemble this year – 9/10/11 July.

BBMF & Pavarotti!

This was in the Gloucestershire Echo yesterday (10-Jan-04).
I have put some of the nitty-gritty in bold.

A Huge military tournament and pop festival could be held in the Cotswolds.

The six-day event could be held at Kemble Airfield, near Cirencester, in August.

Up to 50,000 visitors a day would be expected.

TV comedian Jim Davidson (pictured) may be asked to compere the festival in the plans drawn up by London-based UK Event Management.

The event, proposed for August 13 to August 18, would primarily be for armed service staff and their families but tickets would also be available to the public.

It could raise money for armed forces charities and would feature military bands, rock groups and classical acts.

The military tournament, which would run from August 13 to 15, would include an RAF Falcon, a Red Devil free-fall team, a Battle of Britain memorial flight, a Royal Navy gun display team competition and a military veterans’ fly-past.

Classical concerts on the evenings of August 13 and 14 are envisaged, featuring names such as Luciano Pavarotti and Bryn Terfel.

The music festival would run from August 16 to 18. The acts are yet to be confirmed.

The plans show visitors parking at military bases in South Cerney and Hullavington, near Malmesbury, before boarding buses to the airfield.

Andrew Williams, a spokesman for UK Event Management, said there had been a decline in annual forces festivals.

He said: “A lot of these veterans’ associations have nowhere to meet.

“This was an ideal opportunity and the response so far has been outstanding.

“With good management, it can be organised and any issues will be addressed. Hopefully, if it goes well, it will become an annual event.” Kemble and Ewen Parish Council chairman Roger Pettitt said: “Fundamentally it’s a worrying prospect and comes completely out of the blue.” Cotswold district councillor John Birch (Con, Thames Head) said: “I can’t see how the car parking is going to work.

“The numbers of people involved are very high and with 100 buses going at the same time, it will take some doing.” The district council’s licensing committee will discuss the idea on Monday.
