Kemble on Sunday

If anyone is debating on attending Kemble on Sunday – do go !!

I just spent the day there today, and the displays were fantastic.

With the Red Bull air race pilots proving to be some of the best aerobatic pilots around, they throw their Extra 300, Sukhoi, and Edge 540’s around very fast and at very low level. Just thrilling really.

Also the Delta jets prove to add extra speed (and noise), as will the military participation. See also the new 208SQN display Hawk in it’s patriotic colours..

Nige i like the new sunhat, you know the one you put on first thing Sunday to stop people seeing your ‘combat hair’ (the white workmans hardhat!) – did make us laugh when you put that on!! 😀

I think the Hard Hat had two purposes, 1 was the state of the wig and the second was to stop my head exploding 😀

It’s good to see some of the feedback on the KAD web site, looks like we are working in the right direction, very little in the way of complaints, lets continue this trend at Kemble to allow everyone to really enjoy any events that are held there.

Glen, your concerns about traffic never materialized, teamwork, very impressive 😎

Bucc Society – Yep the Ogri P**s up was good eh? Talking to one of the Bar staff on showday they said they ran out of beer! 😀

Yeah that’s right, all Lager & Bitter was consumed by the early hours leaving only CIDER, which in turn was gone by the time ORGI closed up. Good job Glen didn’t stay to offer everyone a beer!!! 😮 , profit, what profit 😀

I enjoyed spotting those with hang overs in the morning, myself included (once I had looked in the mirror), who’s up for next year??? 😀

i think without a doubt the Chinook display is awesome, certainly very agile for its size!
Static Chinook was great too on departing ,some of my working crew could not believe it ‘backtracked ‘ nose high before lifting & departing with a steep right turn out at low level!! Put the craps up some of the passing motorists thats for sure..

Glen & Co. – you already had my thanks from me & the mob but here it is more publicly, well done mate. 😀

got there at 0815. no problems getting in, or out, after the wokka left…..i thought it an odd arrangement to have exiting traffic that needs to close for active aircraft but there you go…..we were out almost immediately after.

the rain was (quite literally) a Pi**er…but me and the non-enthusiast were quite dry and warm under our fishing brolly-come-tent. I pity the poor buggers that didnt cater for all eventualities!

flying:
if i were to be honest i preferred last years flying display and static display/layout. this years displays were no less interesting, but i thought last years displays were better value for money. Yes the air race was unique, and so too was the display of ga aircraft to any show i’ve been with, but it smacks of filling time with free slots instead of getting some other types in (just my opinion, and its not meant to be offensive! ) which i would find much more interesting (or at least showing the public what those aerobatics aircraft can really do! ).

I did wonder why the entry fee went up in price. i couldnt see anything worth that increase in price, considering RIAT is 25 (painfully hard earnt! ) quid.

we cant have everything tho can we??

all in all it was a decent day out between showers.

BUT this and other airshows I have been to recently have made me change my whole airshow ethos. I have decided that I would prefer to save my money for two days each at fairford and farnborough( or one day at paris), instead of going to shows scattered throughout the year with lots of the same displays.

I feel these are the best value for money (overall) and most worthwhile shows for enthusiasts to go to. I really dont like the ‘family day’ mentality because frankly i dont like the kind of people it attracts, it makes the place unfriendly, when people are constantly barging where your sat, and being completely inconsiderate. This is somthing i have seen increase over the past couple of years, and this is the only thing i can do about it (its not like i am asking organisers to make it ‘enthusiasts’ only).

well done on securing the wokka display(and such a good turn out from the raf), it was at least as good as it was at cosford, and the hunter displays were great too.

Hi everyone, Kemble Air Day was a bit of a curate’s egg, the show itself surperb a good mix of everything and a few surprises.

But once again the Met Office was wrong a again and the heavens could not decide on whether to beam bright sunshine, rain or hail upon us, oh, and it would usually do those things when the highlights of the show were displaying, ie Reds, Sea Vixen (very appriopriate!) and the Hawk. I even saw lightning as we left.

All in all though a great start to the airshow season…Well Done Glen and team

Well, how was it for you all? My highlights and I hate to say this being a Classic Jet freak, was firstly the CHINOOK display, the static Chinook’s arrival behind the VC-10 (man, that it is one serious down draft!!!) and the ever impressive Sea Vixen.
Great show all in all.
I raise my glass to yet another successful Kemble Air Day, well done Glen, Merv and the rest of the team who made it all possible.

That’s enough from me, anyone up for another party at OGRI???? 😀

I also forgot to mention earlier that the static display and viewing area is on the grassed area abeam the main road. This will put the sun in the most favourable area for photographers and those who hate squinting in general. 😎

Gates open at 9am, display flying starts at 1pm. Get there early !!
