Anybody going? Anybody know if there is anything planned – are Delta Jets gunna ‘put one up’ ? Apparently there will be various aircraft pleasure flying – anything special or just the flying schools?

Thanks Glen I guess I must have missed it when I looked at the site 😮
I take it then as the rear gate is know closed if want to visit AV8 its a case of turn up at the main gate, state your intentions, then follow the perimeter track around the inside – observe the runway traffic lights – then round to AV8. I only ask as not being a pilot or having any immediate connection with aviation ( other than as an enthusiast ) I tend to find that access to air side is normally frowned upon at most airfields for us oiks 🙂
The challenge is getting to AV8. The reward is the excellent food!

DGH – It was on the web site (www.kemble.com) that entry would be via the main gate, as the rear one is no longer open. AV8 is open all year round to the public during the operating hours of the airfield and welcome’s visitors.
For the benefit of those on another thread I can confirm that Miss Demeanour will be in the flying display at Yeovilton on Saturday and will depart from Kemble during the afternoon. There is also a T7 sortie tomorrow with G-FFOX. Ultimate High have a full day of sorties booked for their 2 Extra’s and 2 Bulldogs. Another busy day again.

Thanks DHG for the info on the Hunter. Having had a quick look in WR19 it does list a Hunter XL578 as a composite on the dump. So I think this is the one.
Thanks again

As regards your first question Spey111 I think of the top of my head that Hunter is XL578 although I cant say for sure until I get home and check my records. That’s just the main fuselage as the tail and at least one wing are of different aircraft if my memory isn’t playing tricks.
Glen – another good day out at Kemble, G-PSST’s flypasts were awesome – worth the trip on its own. Just one thing though, is it possible to have a few more signs next time I wasn’t the only one who went to the wrong entrance. By the way if your driving to Kemble during the week how do you get to the AV8 resturant?

Albert
Thanks for the comments on the pictures. Yes they are digital. As well as being very tightly packed in especially the Britannia G-ANCF the lighting is very difficult. As well as being dark in some areas needing a tripod and time exposures there is a strange colour cast from the lights. Lets hoping for something better when the move to Filton comes whenever that may be.
Thanks again
Ian

The query to the Hunter should have been the last picture. They came out in reverse order.
A few more pictures from Kemble yesterday and some from the Bristol Aero Collection including the Britannia nose G-ALRX that has been repainted since last time I saw it last year.
Well done Ian. Guess those shots are digital + wide angle! Very difficult to get shots in Bristol Aero Collection hangar as it’s so tightly packed! Let’s hope they get spaced out better when (and if!) they move the collection to Filton.

Stieglitz, the FW190 replica flies a lot and was airborne again this afternoon at Kemble. The chap who owns it is Barry ******* Can’t remember his surname but if you look at the PFA web site I am sure he gets a mention as it won 2 trophys at the rally in July.
Have had another busy couple of days at Kemble with a Merlin and Alpha Jet bashing the circuit and 2 practice displays each by the Extreme Team and the RR Spitfire. No Delta Jets activity but Hunter XL577’s first flight is any day now as the permit to test has arrived.

Nice pics Spey111. Does that scale model FW190 fly often? And if it does, any idea who flies it.
Greets,
J.V.

Kemble pictures 12 Sep 2004
The weather wasn’t particularly kind for much flying or visitors with some heavy showers at times and strong winds. It did allow for a good look round the hangars though.
I don’t know if it has been answered on here before but does anybody know the identity of the Hunter in the first picture. It is a two seater but has had an old wing from G-PSST fitted. Alongside is a tail section in the same colours as G-PSST that has been changed at some time.

Excellent 😀

Miss Demeanour will be returning to Kemble sometime on Sunday afternoon, after Jonathon has displayed at Southport, so there may be possiblity of a flyby or two. Don’t know of anything else happening, though!

Delta Jets fly more vintage jet sorties than any other UK operator (250+) so I would think that there is a very good chance that you will see at least one of the Hunters. There are not many days go by where they don’t generate at least one sortie T7 Hunter, WV372, was up bashing the circuit today.

Yep, that is the plan. It is just an airfield open day – just wondered what if anything will be going on, air display or no airdisplay. I can’t believe Delta Jets won’t put something up. 🙂
By: ApacheFan - 7th September 2004 at 17:09
I believe that there is no official flying display planned for Sunday is there. I heard that it had been cancelled but the airifield will still be open and they will be letting people look around the hangers and what not.
Please correct me if I am wrong.

Does anyone know if John Bradshaws Seafury will be taking part ?
