Were Hamsey Green and Kenley aerodromes one and the same place? If not, where did they lie in relation to each other? If there were two seperate aerodromes, can someone provide OS map references for each of them?

Hamsey Green airfield became a type Q (Q8) decoy site during WW2 and was assigned to Kenley airdrome. I doubt, given the dangers that it was used for any flying at this time, especially ATC.

Hamsey Green airfield, near Warlingham now the Kingsmead Equestrian Centre was set up in 1933 by Richard Gardiner managing director of the Yardley Cosmetics Company. He was an avid air racer using various aircraft like the Comper Swift,Vega Gull and Mew Gull . Today the area is used by employees of Croydon Post Office.
Aviation News for 22.8-4.9.86 had an interesting airfield history by Don Conway. The last users were No 162 ATC Gliding School from 1950-53 using Cadet 1 PD666, II VM646,Grunau VT923,T-21 WB987and BAC Primary NF746.

Hamsey Green was used for WW2 Air Cadet gliding (which was no way as sophisticated or regimented as the post-war ATC gliding operation. Postwar Kenley was used for Air Cadet gliding (still is).
I believe Hamsey Green was basically a big field with some ridge space at the front. I think it’s now built on.
My source was a conversation with Alex Watson at Kenley 20+ years ago !!!!

Hamsey Green is very different-try near warlingham
Rochford, can you provide an OS reference and a closure date for Hamsey Green? I have found an internet reference to it being used for ATC gliding during WW2 but, I think, this must be wrong in location and date. I suspect that the reference should have been to Kenley postwar, but I’d be grateful for any comments on this.
