Kennet Aviation

Just wondering what aircraft they now own, obviously the skyraider, and presumably still the Hunter, but as they have had a few comings and goings what have they got at North Weald?

The boss has cleared a few more. As you may be able to appreciate, its a time consuming business even when you have complete wings to start with, a large amount of time is used saving and re-using as much original parts as poss. The 46 is no more difficult – just different.

Brilliant work….keep it up!

The second Seafire 17, SX300 is well along the path, and as been said, will be ready when ready. Before and after piccies show some of the progress on the port wing. The 46 is expected to follow. Aproper contra prop should look quite cool:)

As the Mk46 has quite a different wing, will it be a more taxing thing to rebuild? I’m assuming that the dies etc to make the A,B,C,D and E wing ribs are readily available, but isn’t the mk20+ wing substantially different?

And yes a (proper) contra prop will be uber cool….Great work, keep it up!:)

Easy Tiger – I was too busy with you other latest piece of handywork the other day to have a good look at the progress you’ve been making – looks great! Hopefully next time I’m there I’ll get more of a chance to savour. Good to see you again, although I wasn’t quite as pleased to see that Ginsters Peppered Steak Slice again on the way home! 😮

There are two Seafire`s currently under restoration with Kennet`s,they are
SX300 G-CDTM MK XVII and LA564 F.46,there are some small parts of another, this being SR461 F.XV, i understand this is being used for patterns and will not be fully restored as there is very little of it.(but i`ve heard that before)
Please do`nt ask when they will fly as you will be told “WHEN THEY ARE READY”.
As for the Gannet (G-KAEW) that is third in line behind the Seafires and just infront of a Scout (XV119).

I think you can reasonably assume that the outer wing of SR461 is destined to be restored and incorporated in to the rebuild of SX300.

LA564, an old friend, will need a set of non folding Mk 22 wings. The Mk 46 never went to sea but was land based and used for DDL’s by pilots training up on contra-prop and the Mk 47 for Korea.

Please be advised that, as with the other outfits at North Weald, Kennet’s hangar isn’t normally open to the public.

Very True….

Thank you for the info on the lay of the land. I wouldn’t ask such a churlish question (re:when they will fly)being into resto and maint myself I hear it alot. I’m just a bit of a naval aviation enthusiast and really like both types, and would love to see pics and hear progress of both. I’d pop to have a look, but I’m currently in one of the armed forces favourite holiday destinations..the desert!

I thought the lump of wing sitting in front of the Sea Fury was part of the Seafire 46, the photo was taken at last years Air Britain fly in.

Photo removed at the request of someone in the know. Appologies.

The Gannet is XL500, the ex Chatham Docks, Culdrose 849sqn display, and the last military Gannet to fly in the UK. Last I heard it was being slowly restored to airworthiness.

Markstringer / The Freshest

Progress is being made and no you will not see it this year.
The Skyraider dose fly at other events during the year, but it`s something you just don`t fly around for the fun of it.

G-ANPK

Understandably, it must drain fuel at an alarming rate too. I would like to see it at other venues though, thanks.
