RE: kermit weeks/lancaster
Thanks for the great canadian lanc pic…
The other lancaster photo is from a shallower angle and does not show the wrinkling to such a degree. It might be just that the lanc is banking to port quite sharply and the aerodynamic loads which are normal for this type of manouver are incresed with the paint scheme…?
Just a thought??

[updated:LAST EDITED ON 23-02-03 AT 02:50Â PM (GMT)]Hi Peter,
Your skin wrinkling explaination does seem a possibility, although I can’t find any other pics of her which show it up to such a great degree.I think the light and the semi gloss paint finish might be combining to exagerrate the effect. Here’s a similar pic, with no sign of wrinkles…
Thought I’d also chuck in an RCAF example to keep our Canadian Lanc fans happy…:)

Ant,
Some great pics there…
It may be a optical illusion but if you look on the stbd wing forward of the aileron attacments, there appears to be a large amount of skin wrinklling present. It might be due to the stress imposed on the left bank attitude???

Thanks. I didn’t realise KB976 had been over here in an operational capacity. I thought she was Canadian built and served there throughout her career.

She was at Linton On Ouse in 1945 and they intend to return her as near as posible to that condition with what resources they have.
Obviously if any other parts come available it would be great to incorporate them.

Best I can do would be to send a photo of the 5 or so containers sitting on the back lot of Fantasy of Flight. As far as I know it’s been in the containers for quite some time, so I’m imagining photos of it are going to be hard to come by.
