Anyone know the where abouts of any RR Kestrel 111 Engines we could perhaps have access to for the purposes of possibly creating full size replica versions with the addition of a blower etc to give the general appearance of a Perigrinne
engine or even do you know where we can find parts of a Perigrinne to do the same. Thats for copying not converting the available engines unless of course there are some generous individuals out there who feel they would like to donate the relevent parts and engines ?.
Many Thanks

Is the supercharger on the Peregrine the same as the one on the Kestrels that were fitted to Miles Masters?
I dont know Merlin Pete is probably the best one to answer that but I suspect not ??

None left in Kabul,or India ??
I seem to remember that a couple of Kabul Kestrel’s went missing from the scrap yard in the time between the finding of the cashe and the airframe recovery taking place. It was suggested they had been scrapped. Some enginew were brought out.

Wouldn’t copying parts from a Kestrel MK XXX be of more use than an earlier MK 111 ?, the later mark of Kestrel was the type fitted to the Master MK 1, & from the little I seem to remember on the Peregrine, didn’t it use a number of late mark Kestrel parts ?.
There was a Kestrel from the crash site of a Miles Master MK 1, on display at the D & G museum in Scotland.

Hi
I know they would be almost as difficult to find, but what about the Vulture, (basically two peregrines )
Is there many parts compatible with the peregrine ?
And would any manchester crash sites yield any good parts, Apparently there were about 193 manchesters and 45 were non-operational losses.
cheers
Jerry

Different blower and carb. It`s typical that the Peregrine had to be unique. If you Google pictures of it you will see what I mean.
Actually a Merlin III blower casing would be close to the size and look of it, but different in other ways, so no help really.

Thanks for the input guys re the ones at RRHT Steve has told me they are his engines and has given an invitation to view and do what we wish subject to arranging it with RRHT.But obviously if there is more out there it might benifit all.Obviously very interested in the stuff you have Graham what a damn shame about the rest of it.Merlin Pete did you say what Graham has is or is not interchangeable with what we want to model from ?.

It was owned by three people two wanted it scrapped, the one i got the remaining bits wanted to keep it. When i told him what it was worth he had a blue fit. Hard to put a price on, but allot of cash thats for sure. The sad thing is that it made it to the late 80s just a little research would have told them it was worth keeping in one piece. I also have the cams and mags so not all was lost.

…a Kestrel supercharger and carb from an engine that was complete and running in the 80s broken up for scrap!
I hope they are kicking themselves…..what would a running Kestrel be worth today?

Firebex, have you been in touch with R-RHT?
I too saw the Peregrine on display (on the occasion of the AGM 10 days ago) but earlier we had been treated to a ‘film’ – a computer model of a Griffon running (with soundtrack added) and it was superb.
There was, I think, mention of future projects of scanning/modelling other engines. Perhaps you could suggest the Peregrine?

The Peregrine was more like a scaled-down Merlin than a late Kestrel, and had a downdraught version of the Merlins twin barrel SU carb feeding a supercharger based on the Merlin.
The crankcase is much the same as the Kestrel, but the blocks and lower crankcase were redesigned.
A Kestrel would be the obvious starting point. The two engines you mentioned are the only ones generally known to exist but I bet there must be others still buried out there somewhere.

Here is a Kestrel supercharger and carb that I own. Believe it or not they came from an engine that was complete and running in the 80s broken up for scrap!

I,m amazed Rolls Royce havent got documentation….
Its alright having documentation and drawings but if you have one you can scan in apparantly so they tell me it works better for CAD and to put it into a machine to foam cut a replica (if thats the right term )

The Rolls Royce Heritage (sounds better than hysterical, doesn’t it?) Trust does indeed have a single Peregrine on display. I think, though am not certain, that it is on loan from Steve Vizzard (unsure of the correct spelling so do forgive any errors). I walk past the engine most weeks. I’m due in again on Wednesday so I’ll check over its state with your requirements in mind.

Rolls Royce have a couple of crash damaged Peregrines that are on loan I believe to the Hysterical Branch and on display..
Yes we know about these two they belong to Steve Vizzard and are the remains of the two recovered from the Whirlwind crash site in scotland. Its just in case there is more out there to be found ?.
In view of the few crash sites excavated there must be the remains of more than the two engines we know about. There was a museum somewhere displaying another part Perigrinne but we dont know who and where.
If we could access to a Kestrel III intact we would be 90% there for a copy less the supercharger.
Steves two one is very badly damaged the other is maybe 75% there but the rear casing is apparantly smashed off.
