Judging by the flight sim poll thread, the vast majority of people on this forum use the MS Flight Simulator series. So I was thinking it would be nice if keymags had there own private FS server we could all fly on.

Thanks for the comments people. It will be mentioned at the next meeting. However we do not currently have the resources to provide a gaming server.
I’ll keep you posted.
With Airliner World subscription prices having suddenly leapt up in the past month, perhaps a bit of this money could go towards the necessary hardware.

What do we suggest running on it?
BF, IL2, any more???
That would be optimum if someone had some spare computers with decent specs and a open broadband connection, they could provide multiple servers with FS, BF, IL-2 and a webpage to get common freeware plane downloads for FS.

Ah but space is cheap, bandwidth is not!
I imagine Key has their websites hosted by a hosting company rather than having a large connection.
Anyway lets get some interest and try and persuade them.

Do you know how much a games server costs? Not sure what Key would get out of it, however I for one would be willing to pay a couple of quid a month to have access.
I dont think there would be hardly any cost for keymags at all. I believe they run their own forum servers which is on their own high bandwidth internet connection and have full time systems administrator to run it. Its really just a matter of buying another computer to run as a game server, there is no extra cost other than that one time purchase. To give you an idea of what kind of bandwidth is being given away now, Google is giving Gmail accounts that have 1 gig of storage space, yahoo and hotmail are going to increase their space to 100 mb to try and counter this.

I’ve been toying with the idea of renting a small one anyway. Perhaps if we got enough interest in it here we could suggest it to the webby. Anyone interested post here, and we’ll send a list of people to the Mr Webmaster. 😀
