Why so? he’d get good money for the Merlin they took off, would be in great nick I imagine :p

Very nice work, hopefully the new buyer takes the Merlin off and puts a DB up front, may be a big ask in these $$ times
If he does that, I’ll find him and beat him to death with a lead pipe! :diablo:
(I am, of course, joking. Possibly)

That really is one of the best Buchon restorations I’ve seen. It looks the mutt’s!

Problem solved. If you go to the Aero Auction website it says it’s “airworthy in the USA”.

True Kenneth, I think its in California.

If you look at the other aircraft also offered by this broker, you’ll find a Citation X based in Mengen (runway’s much too short for that), a Cessna Skycatcher based in Mengen (none delivered to anyone sofar) and an Antonov An-2 on floats based in Mengen (no comment).
So I wouldn’t bet on the Hispano actually being in Germany…

I belive the aircraft is:
HA-1112-M1L c/n 234 C.4K-169 (N109W).
Used as “Red 5” in the “Battle of Britain” movie.
Owner: Harold Kindsvater, Castle Air Force Base, CA (A)
The N reg database have the Manufacturer Name Messerschmitt. Is that normal?

Even if registered to a museum, this Casa aircraft would be breaking German law. A genuine Bf-109 could be considered to be educational if attached to a museum, but I’m not even sure this goes for flying museum aircraft.

A small point but I didn’t think Germany based aircraft were allowed to carry the swastika. Perhaps it’s because it’s N-registered.
You are right, they are not – and it does not matter where they are registered.

sorry to offend *gets belongings and starts packing*
can i just point out this one thing daz
:p
there im done 😉
No need to do that! 😉
Besides, I do agree that the early-model ‘109s do look nice, but the late-model ‘109s are a bit fugly, with bulges and things all over the nose.
The Buchon, however, looks rather sleek and purposeful – and very menacing!
Then, of course, you have the Planes of Fame Buchon NX700E, which has the Merlin still installed, but has been modified to more closely resemble a Bf-109!

If you watch the film Pearl Harbor, this is the ‘109 seen throughout the Eagle Squadron sequences…

very nice 🙂
always thought the merlin engine looked ugly on an aircraft designed for an inverted V
Get out! :p
is it the rarity of daimler benz engines that see’s few DB engines mounted in 109s?
Technically speaking, ALL ‘109s are fitted with DB engines. As this is a Ha.1112, the Merlin is correct! 😉
But I know what you’re getting at. I suppose it boils down to cost and serviceability as much as rarity (can’t be that many DB605 engines around (which was fitted to the Bf-109G series, which the Buchon stems from originally)).
