For those that are interested I have posted photos from the events at Kitty Hawk on December 17th. I’m still wet but really enjoyed the event.
Happy Landings,

Just caught the tail end of a programme on Discovery channel here in the UK which showed the replica trundling along the rail… and then plopping into the muck. Apparently, even at 15kts, the wind was insufficient to make the thing fly.
Which suggests to me, that if the Wrights were able to fly their aeroplane (note proper spelling ;), ) as we know they were, then they were taking an even greater risk than we appreciate.
First flight on type = first solo. I’m pretty sure that would terrify all of the pilots on here.
No pilots notes to refer to. Eek!
And we can only launch the thing in 20 kts or more. You’ve gotta be kidding!
And the only crash crew we’ve got is your brother and a few other locals.
I think we can safely say, that one hundred years and two days ago, one very brave man paved the way for the world as we know it.

The Flyer is going to the Henry Ford Museum when they are finished with it. I have not seen any of the press from Kitty Hawk so not sure what was said about the attempt. It has been a crazy few days.

Any idea what is going to happen to this replica? Do you think they’ll give it another attempt in better weather?
Do you know if the pilot was more relieved than disappointed. It looked quite suicidal, having seen how impossible the simulator at Sun ‘n Fun was to fly.
